Activities at Mallard Court Care Home
We provide a wide range of group activities and individual one to one activities to meet our residents needs including musical entertainers, PAT dog visits, minibus outings, themed events and much more!
We take a person centred approach when planning each individuals activities so they can achieve a feeling of self worth and well-being.
We hold monthly meetings with the residents and also regular meetings with their family and friends, discussing any ideas that they may have, and also any problems that their may have. Both of our activities coordinators, Steve and Lynne, have completed NAPA Activity Workers Level 2 Award training, and are continually seeking new ideas so we can ensure life in the home is as varied and interesting as possible. We encourage strong community links with the local schools, colleges and local charities in the community. Steve is supported also by his dogs, Tia, Pebbles and Oscar who give great pleasure to the residents in our home, and can often be seen either on a persons lap or being taken for a walk around the home. Many of the visitors that come into Mallard Court commented that it is so friendly and welcoming.
Steve Moss
Hi, my name is Steve, and I have been a Lifestyle Coordinator at Mallard Court since 2006, and have achieved the NAPA (National Association of Activity Providers) Level 2 Award in Activity Provision in the Care Sector.
We provide a wide range of activities for the people we support, as well as for their families and friends. I also love to have one-to-one chats with residents who like to reminisce about their lives over a cup of tea and some biscuits.
We have our own minibus and have fun days out sight-seeing, having a picnic or going a local pub for a drink and a meal. We also arrange for local artists to provide musical entertainment for everyone at Mallard Court.

Life at Mallard Court Care Home
Fete Brings the Local Community Together
Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Mallard Court to enjoy a Christmas Fete that was recently held in the home’s grounds. Mallard Court hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including a festive feast, tombola stall, live entertainment, games which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event. The home also welcomed special guests, Councillor Jackie Foster - Deputy Mayor and Councillor Cyril Marsburg - Deputy Mayors Consort to open the proceedings.
Residents and colleagues made everyone feel welcome and were delighted to see different generations having fun together. Visitors enjoyed plenty of refreshments, such as Mince pies and mulled wine prepared by the catering team, who were hard at work making sure that a great time was had by all – it really was a team effort!
Dianne Peters General Manager said: “Staff here at Mallard Court are dedicated to making sure that the home is a hub of the local community, and this event, along with all their hard work, has definitely paid off. It was a resounding success!”
Residents Enjoy Talk Like a Pirate Day
Residents at Mallard Court had lots of fun on Talk Like a Pirate Day and thought about items they would take if they were stranded on a desert island. Lots of staff decided to dress up like characters from the Pirates of the Caribbean and one even had a stuffed parrot sewn on to his shirt.
Fruity cocktails were mixed up and enjoyed as well as a sing song to some sea shanty tunes with a special performance by guitarist, Robert Illes.
National Dog Day
To celebrate National Dog Day, residents of Mallard Court held a photography competition open to everyone including residents, family, friends and staff. Judging was incredibly hard for the panel to choose their winners due to the quality of entrants received.
Residents eventually chose their winners and prizes were presented to the top 3 finalist which included a photo shoot at Max Spielman local photography shop. Barbara their local RSPCA fund raiser donated a RSPCA hamper, a £10 Sainsbury voucher and dog treats for all other entries.
All proceeds went to the homes local RSPCA branch. There was a display board in the foyer for everyone to view the photos. In addition, they also had a cake stall to raise funds for the RSPCA, with funds raised on the day of £33.00.

Birthday Celebrations
Betty celebrated her birthday on the ‘glorious 12th’, as she fondly refers to it, so we can never forget the date! orn in 1922, Betty formerly lived in Chapletown, before moving closer to family.
Betty worked for Newton Chambers at High Green during the war, has also worked for Halls & Pickles engineering factory in Ecclesfield and as barmaid at Chapeltown Working Mens Club.
Betty married her beloved late husband, Fred, who was a musician, where they toured the clubs and featured on the radio station,'Worker's Playtime’.
Betty loves reading anything, especially love stories like Mills and Boon. Betty also loves music, singing and dancing, and her favourite song is ,Que Sera, by Doris Day.
She has always lived by the motto, 'the most important thing in life is good manners; being respectful to others and in return gaining the respect of others'.
The home held a surprised birthday party for Betty, her friends and family, where staff presented the birthday girl with a huge cake in her honour.
Mexico Comes to Bridlington
Residents and staff at Mallard Court had a brilliant time at their Mexican evening. It was full of delicious Mexican cuisine, with entertaining mariachi band-style music in the background. Residents decided on the Mexican-themed tasting menu and, while some were a little nervous about trying new food, everyone really enjoyed themselves. It was a really fun evening and we are already planning our next event.
