Activities at Lindum House Care Home

Our fantastic Activities Coordinators make sure that there is a full programme of social events to suit all interests and capabilities. They aim to not only to stimulate, but to ensure that everyone involved has lots of fun. We enjoy trips out visiting local places of interest or just to explore, which inevitably ends up with us having a lovely lunch somewhere.

There are regular concerts that we hold in the home that allows us to have a good old singalong, and our community links include the local churches, knit and natter groups and toddler groups coming in to see residents.

On a daily basis, everyone enjoys a variety of activities, including quizzes, bingo, arts and crafts, reminiscing and movement to music. We also host movie afternoons on the big screen which, of course, involves popcorn and ice cream at the interval!

Any residents who are unable to join us in the communal areas for activities have one-to-one time in their rooms, with us either reading to them, chatting or anything else they wish to do that’s within their capabilities.

Kelly Rolph

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi there, I'm Kelly. My role at Lindum House ensures all of our residents always have lots of fun activities to look forward too.

I grew up down south, my parents worked in news trade & I've lived in many places! I've lived in hull for 20 years now, worked in health and social care for around 15 years, I started on care, worked through domestic, kitchen assistant and found my calling with activities!

I'm a super social person, enjoy being busy and sing in my spare time. I am part of a small singing charity group 'guise & gals'. I've been singing karaoke since I was 18 but never had the confidence to take it any further. I do, however, love putting on a show for our residents!

I'm a strong believer in 'treat people how you wish to be treated' everyone is different and it's important to focus on each individuals wants and needs, to encourage and nurture life, you only live once!

I'm full of energy, providing there is music... it's good for my soul!

Our residents smiles are my reward, it makes me so happy to see them enjoying them selves.

Life at Lindum House Care Home

Keeping in Touch

Lindum House is helping to tackle any feelings of isolation during this period within their own community. Assistance for residents to use iPads, Skype, Facebook and Facetime is being encouraged and facilitated by care workers as a way to reach out to families, friends and loved ones during these isolating times. Residents have also been writing down their messages to share to their families in the traditional way of putting pen to paper!

Cookery Class

Everyone put their aprons and thinking caps on as they decided what to bake. We chose to make fairy cakes under the watchful eye of resident, Diane, who led the group as they got to work on mixing the ingredients together. They were also joined by Abbie, a student at Beverley College, who visits the home regularl, and supported under Diane’s watchful eye. Once the cakes were baked, residents enjoyed eating them with their loved ones.

This activity took place before the COVID-19 lockdown.

A Sweet Delivery

Residents and colleagues at Lindum House were delighted to answer the door whilst playing their favourite game of bingo to accept a special delivery from their local TK Maxx in Kingswood, who were closing their doors temporarily due to the coronavirus. The bags were filled with delicious treats for residents and our hardworking, dedicated team.

On behalf of Lindum House, residents and colleagues would like to pass on their gratitude for being considered at this time of uncertainty, and hope everyone stays safe and well.

Postcards of Kindness

To combat loneliness and isolation, residents of Lindum House joined the initiative, 'Postcards of Kindness', and are delighted when the postman delivers their mail. During the current coronavirus crisis, residents extended their social network to seek pen-pals of all ages reaching out to the nurseries, schools and members of the local community to remain connected.

Thank you Amie, aged 9, Eva, aged 4, brothers Blake and Rowan, aged 6 and 2, for adding a little colour and sunshine to our residents' day!

It is amazing how a simple letter, short story, poem or even a photo or drawing can brighten someone’s day. The residents of Lindum House will then reply as part of our busy social activity sessions.

We are happy to receive things via post, which can be sent to directly to the home, or you can email us directly to lindumhouse.activities@barchester.com.

Birthday Celebrations for Ivy

Local resident, Ivy recently enjoyed a little care break at Lindum where she celebrated her birthday surrounded by staff and residents.  It was all eyes down as everyone played a fun-filled game of bingo before the homes chef, Mo presented Ivy with a home-made birthday cake.

As house was called, everyone settled back to enjoy a refreshing cup of tea and a slice of the delicious home-made cake.

Sweet Treats Galore

Residents from Lindum House enjoyed an afternoon of baking, which took them back to their younger years. After baking, residents decorated their homemade shortbread biscuits to spread the love to the hard working staff to say thank you for all that they do. They tasted very good too!

Residents enjoy spending time in the kitchen, as it not only brings back memories of their childhood, but also times when they’ve baked with their own children and grandchildren. Once all the treats were made, we all enjoyed sitting down with a cup of tea and a home-made cake.
