Activities at Southgate Beaumont Care Community

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Zoe Grindley

Zoe Grindley

Activities Coordinator

Hello My name is Zoe, I have been in the life enrichment team at Southgate Beaumont since December 2021.

I am originally from Liverpool and moved to London in 1997 after being accepted at Mountview Theatre school. After graduating I worked as an actress and accomplished voiceover artist for many years. I also have a vast amount customer service experience, working in many West End Theatres, as Cabin crew for Virgin Atlantic and at Claridges hotel in Mayfair.

Zoe has a passion for making strong connections with people and creating lasting memorable experiences.

My role here at Southgate Beaumont is to ensure our residents lives are packed full of enriching and interesting activity. We provide a wide range of both home led and community led activity for all residents as well as personalised and individual hobby and interest focused events. Our programme ranges from cocktail making, to art history talks, exercise sessions as well as fine dining dinner parties catered for by our chefs

I have made lots of lovely new friends at Southgate Beaumont care home and look forward to making many more.

Celebrating life at Southgate Beaumont Care Community

A lovely sit in the garden

A lovely sit in the garden

We are so pleased that it's starting to feel like summer. We have such a beautiful garden, but we also have lots of shade from some of the big beautiful trees that surround us. It’s so important for our residents to have time outdoors, to take in the scenery, enjoy the fresh flowers and to feel the warm breeze on their faces.

Sitting outside and taking walks in the sunshine brings a feeling of independence, happiness and a sense of identity to so many. When the weather gets too hot we will make sure we have lots of ice cream to hand. We look forward to making lots of happy memories together in the coming months ahead.

Easter!

Easter!

We had such a lovely Easter here at Southgate and residents were so happy to receive some very special Easter treats on Easter Sunday.

We had two very special ladies (One is the daughter of a current resident and another of our independent-living residents) who tirelessly knitted over 50 bunnies! Each bunny even had a fluffy tail and an Easter treat inside.

Having a small personal gift delivered to each and every room kept everyone feeling included, brought lots of smiles, and a great deal of happiness.

We also enjoyed a lively Easter themed Bingo with lots of nice prizes. We had a great turn out, with old friends ( who previously had loved ones here at Southgate), also making an appearance to help our less able residents.

We are proud that the home continues to be a place of comfort and happiness for them, despite their loved ones no longer being here.

A beautiful Art Exhibition celebrating the work of carer, Regina

A beautiful Art Exhibition celebrating the work of carer, Regina

We were so proud to celebrate the artwork of our beloved carer, Regina. Residents, staff and members of the community were so uplifted by these stunning paintings, based on the memories of Regina's life, growing up in Lithuania.

With wine and great conversation, it really felt like we had our own private gallery in the home. Especially as the monthly community art lecture took place on the same day, so lots of local people from the local community were also able to join us. We also kept things inclusive for all, taking paintings into private rooms for everyone to enjoy.

So many residents were not aware of Regina's hidden talents and were so delighted to see so many original paintings from her collection.

It really was a very special day for all, and we were so proud to celebrate Regina and her wonderful gift.

Christmas Party

Christmas Party

We had a such a lovely Christmas party for all our residents in December! With delicious food, mulled wine and mince pies for everyone to enjoy.

It was so wonderful to have so many family and friends joining us too.

We also would like to say a very special thank you to our special guests Mr and Mrs Christmas , who took time out of their busy schedule to hand out presents to everyone in the home.

They also visited all those residents who are currently nursed in bed, bringing some extra special magic to each and every one of them, during the festive period.

A social outing to Browns!

A social outing to Browns!

It was such a lovely feeling for our residents, to be out enjoying a Friday night together. Browns gave us such a warm welcome, and it was the perfect place to enjoy drinks and nibbles on a rainy evening. Residents enjoyed their favourite tipple, whilst tucking into chunky chips and other tasty treats.

Residents commented on how much fun it was, and really embraced the chance to chat and learn more about one's lives. We hope to have many more of these evenings together, as the nights draw in. An opportunity for our residents to feel a sense of great independence and have fun together.

World cultural diversity day

World cultural diversity day

This month we joined together as a home, to Celebrate World Culture and Diversity day. We had such an enjoyable afternoon dancing to music from around the world and sampling home-made dishes, brought along by our team.

We may all be from different places, with different beliefs, but coming together and supporting and respecting each other is of upmost importance within our home. Together we all make the difference in providing the best care for our residents, no matter what our background.

Celebrating the Jewish Festival of Purim

Celebrating the Jewish Festival of Purim

Another beautifully delivered afternoon by one of our independent-living residents, honouring our promise to celebrate these important festivals for our Jewish residents.

We all learnt about this important Jewish festival and how Purim is the celebration of Queen Esther and how she saved the Jewish people. We all took part in booing the villains and cheering on the heroines in this immersive story. It was wonderful to see everyone committing to and respecting this celebration, no matter what the religion or belief.

These celebrations give identity to our Jewish residents, but also educate us in different traditions. We also enjoyed the delicious hanastaschen, which is a traditional triangle-shaped cookie, eaten on this day.

It was especially lovely to see our residents enjoying this occasion with family members, particularly when attending synagogue together has become more difficult due to declining health.

Christmas Party

Christmas Party

Residents enjoyed a magical performance from Cellist Angel, who played the most beautiful carols and classical favourites in this intimate performance. In the comfort of our cosy lounge with the warmth of the Christmas tree, it was an opportunity to experience live classical music from our own home.

This live music, accompanied by Angels gentle nature and fun personality connected so many residents together, and everyone commented how special the afternoon had been. Especially from one particular resident who had played many times at the Royal Albert hall in an orchestra.

We also celebrated together with a staff party. With everyone dressing up in their finest, delicious food and great games organised by the team. It was a chance to be together on a more personal level, to have fun and to enjoy the build up to the festive period together.

London Children's Ballet

London Children's Ballet

What an extra special treat for our residents, with the annual return of The London Children’s Ballet, and their latest production of Cinderella.

This is the fourth time we have had the privilege of welcoming back this company, who transform our lounge into a place of magic, as they dance beautifully around the space. This live spectacle gives our residents a chance to see a stunning piece of live theatre from the comfort of their own home.

Residents commented on how much this experience transported them into a different world, taking in the lovely music, glittering gowns, and talented performers. It’s always a nice opportunity to meet the children afterwards, and they are always so happy to chat with our residents and share their love of ballet.

Trip to The Royal Albert Hall

Trip to The Royal Albert Hall

Residents at Southgate Beaumont had a wonderful treat this month, with a visit from the Alberts Band from The Royal Albert Hall. Alberts' band are committed to reaching out within the community, sharing their passion for music and delivering a wonderful mini concert for all to enjoy.

Residents were each given a beautiful songbook, full of pictures and lyrics to sing along to, and the performance was accompanied by fun stories and interesting facts from the many artists who have performed there over the years. We were taken on a journey through the years, hearing songs from Cliff Richard, Dame Vera Lynne, Sir Tom Jones and The Beatles. It was certainly a trip down memory lane.

One of our residents was delighted to enjoy this experience, after also playing at the famous venue himself many years ago. He was happy to share stories of happy times he had playing at the Proms and many other well-known events. We would like to thank the Royal Albert Hall for this special opportunity and the joy that it brought into our home.

International Nurse's Day

International Nurse's Day

We took the opportunity to celebrate our amazing nurses on International nurses day. We are so proud of our team here at Southgate.

Our nurses work with passion and dedication to ensure the best care for all our residents. We are so grateful for their warmth, positivity and spirit and we would like to thank them for going above and beyond each and every day.

Celebrating St Patrick's Day

Celebrating St Patrick's Day

Residents and staff toasted the Luck of the Irish on St Patrick's Day, bringing fun and enjoyment to all. Our Irish residents were particularly proud to mark this occasion, which brings a sense of meaning and identity to their heritage.

With lots of jolly Irish folk music and our favourite tipple, residents embraced the afternoon wearing bright green clothing.
We enjoyed a fun Irish quiz and even heard stories about kissing the famous Blarney stone!

Honouring our Jewish residents within our home and celebrating the holiday of Hanukkah

Honouring our Jewish residents within our home and celebrating the holiday of Hanukkah

A beautiful afternoon led by one of our own independent living residents, who delivered a personal and informative introduction to the traditions of Hanukkah. It was a great opportunity to come together to chat, learn about the meaning behind this special holiday and, of course, to eat doughnuts and sample the traditional Challah bread, which was delicious.

It was particularly special to see residents and family members coming together to light candles and create memories. Especially for one family whose father finds it very difficult to attend his synagogue.

We want everyone to feel celebrated within our home, and we are always grateful to learn and respect each other’s beliefs and religions. We are now looking forward to honouring other Jewish holidays within the home.

Diwali celebrations

Diwali celebrations

Southgate Beaumont was filled with bright decorations and vibrant music, as we celebrated the Hindu festival Diwali. As a home, we love to celebrate these important occasions together, and everyone was involved in making it extra special for our residents. We decorated our beautiful lounge with bright sparkly lights and flowers.

Our team walked around in colourful costumes, and residents enjoyed a live Sari demonstration, delicious food and lots of traditional music. Residents commented on what a wonderful time they had and how much they had enjoyed learning about a different tradition.

A wonderful afternoon with the very talented singer Victoria

A wonderful afternoon with the very talented singer Victoria

Victoria is a wonderful and talented local performer, recently performing in Pretty Woman The Musical in Zurich.

Victoria is a huge favourite with all our residents, who really enjoy her vivacious energy, fun mini stage, her beautiful outfit and sparkly shoes. Her choice of music and great mix of songs, will often bring many of our residents to their feet.

Victoria makes everyone feel special, taking the time to talk to residents, before and after her performance. She really brings the magic and energy into every performance, and residents definitely leave with a spring in their step and a smile on their face.
