Activities at Hugh Myddelton House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Scrabble games with volunteers

We had two lovely volunteers who came from Enfield Council to Hugh Myddelton Care Home, many of our residents were delighted when they arrived as we met some new faces and welcomed in, as well as swiftly starting a game of scrabble in the café area.

On that day we hope was a memorable and enjoyable day for many of our residents to take part in and have fun as well as that we hope the volunteers who were also with us did too.

Eid Mubarak!

Eid al-Fitr means the feast of the breaking of the fast and traditionally begins the day after the sighting of the new crescent moon which marks the end of Ramadan and the start of the month of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic Hijri calendar.

The meaning of Fitr is “to break” that illustrates the breaking of the Feast period. Muslims forgive and forgot all past arguments and quarrels and celebrate it together with sweet dishes and other delicious meals.

Hugh Myddelton house Team would love to give our biggest appreciation to Rakshi Salman one of our brilliant chef who did above and beyond to celebrate this special day with us. With her Perseverance in putting herself forward and said “I will bring some food and give my time to the residents for them to be able to celebrate this special Traditional day for our Muslim culture, leave it with me”, saying this with care and pride.

International Dance Day

Hugh Myddelton House care home bopped and shimmied their way to a good old knees up, as residents and staff celebrated International Dance Day.

Staff and residents at the home marked the day with a whole host of dance-related fun activities. Residents were given the cha-cha-chance to learn new dance styles from around the world. They were joined by the Iberian Folkloric dance and music association who put on an amazing show and encouraged everyone to join in.

Jean, resident at the home said: “I have always loved dancing, it took me back to being a teenage again. My family used to all get together and dance at the weekend. I used to enter competitions when I was young you know. It has been wonderful to reminisce about those days and wonderful to have my family here with me to enjoy this day of dance.”

“Every Flower is a Soul Blossoming in Nature”

Yesterday afternoon we did some flower arranging and created some beautiful floral designs to put around our home

Our residents love getting involved in various activities but they do enjoy their flower arranging activity

Thank you to our volunteer Pat, who really does a magnificent job!

Happy International Women's Day

Residents and staff at Hugh Myddelton House marked International Women’s Day on March 8th by spending the day celebrating the achievements of wonderful trail-blazing women throughout history.

Also, we had a great time with a live music performance with the fabulous Pete Morton. We joined in the singing, clapped and made some requests for our favourite songs!

Everyone had a great time and some residents were excited to show their dance moves.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Hugh Myddelton House was decorated with shamrocks and everyone got dressed up in green to mark St.Patrick's Day. Residents and team members had a fantastic time enjoying a live music show that took place at the home. Local singer, Pete Morton, performed a selection of Irish songs including Molly Malone, The Irish Rover, Danny Boy, The Belle of Belfast City and many more. Residents joined in with the singing and clapped along as the singer performed his finale song Whiskey in a Jar. We all had a wonderful St Patrick 's Day and sampled some Guinness & lovely Irish whiskeys too. Head chef prepared a fantastic Irish spread with traditional Irish dishes.
