What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"I came to Barchester Hyacinth House after a bad fall at home with two crushed lumbar vertebrae. I was also suffering from colitis. I could not have carried on at home even with health service support. During my stay, my vertebrae have fused and I can stand unaided. I needed four visits to the hospital for treatment for colitis. On each occasion, I was escorted by a Barchester carer. It so happens that the infusions have put my colitis in remission. Careful dieting at Hyacinth House has been invaluable."

"Barchester and The Chitter Chatter Club work together hosting a chat club for loneliness sufferers in the community and maybe even in the home. New faces come every week and it's so lovely, so empowering. It's helped integrate new residents, visitors and staff. Barchester supplies the voluntary staff as hosts. It's so lovely. It has built an amazing community within the care home and everyone looks forward to seeing each other every week."

"From my very first phone call to Hyacinth House at 19:12 hours on 27th December 2023, the service was very professional and ever so kind and caring to my mother and her children. The following morning, my son (adult nurse) and I met Hyacinth House's Home Services Advisor and she was again superb, quickly understood my mother's feelings, fears, and more importantly her needs. She was very clear and gave us a very detailed tour of the lovely care home and the activities available. Mum duly arrived the next day and her respite stay was very successful. All the staff, from the fantastic chef, amazing care staff and the management were just superb and so caring. Thank you."

"Having been admitted to Hyacinth House unexpectedly, I cannot fault the genuine kindness, care, service and attention afforded to me during my stay here. Each and every member of staff has been interested in me as a person and have had the time to listen to me and give encouragement every step of my recovery. My thoughts about care homes have drastically changed since my stay at Hyacinth House. I and my family couldn't recommend the care and attention highly enough. First-class on every level. Thank you."

"It's so lovely and new. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the food, and accommodation are out of this world. I had respite there for a week. There were so many activities. I made a lovely friend too."

"Mom was a little anxious about going to Barchester Hyacinth House for some respite after an operation but from the moment she arrived, she was made to feel welcome and relaxed in the new environment. She enjoyed the fact it was home away from home, where her routine didn't change that much. She enjoyed the interaction with all the staff and the various activities that were put on for them. The food was lovely and small portions given as she liked. After two weeks, she is now talking of returning in the future for another "holiday". Well done to all the staff for making it such a pleasurable experience that she would like to return."

"A modern and well-executed home, which was a pleasure to visit. The staff were all friendly and professional. The food and drinks offered were spot-on. I genuinely cannot find any criticism. My mother-in-law will be back for respite - she is delighted with every aspect."

"My mother-in-law recently moved into Hyacinth House, first for a trial period. But when the trial ended there was no hesitation for our relative signing up to be a permanent guest. We were all a little anxious as to how this would work out, transitioning from living alone to becoming part of a new community but the staff are all very welcoming and dispelled any fears. No ask is too much trouble for the excellent team at Hyacinth House. The facilities are akin to what you would find in a high class hotel, the food is amazing and the chefs are ready to adjust menus to suit all needs. There is also a good range of activities, enthusiastically put together and delivered, with the guests at the centre. We cannot put any criticism at all with the home, or with any of the staff who are always very positive and friendly. I highly recommend Barchester Hyacinth House and we are 100% confident that our relative will be very well cared for and will enjoy her stay."

"My mother has come to Barchester Hyacinth House for a month's respite. We had to arrange care quickly due to a family emergency, and the team were excellent in addressing an offering my mother a place at very short notice. The care my mother is receiving is excellent. The food is amazing and facilities wonderful. Staff are always kind attentive and professional."

"From March it has not been possible to visit. From mid-June, it has been possible to visit for half an hour a week but due to covid distancing, it has been difficult to communicate with my wife as she has dementia and it is difficult to estimate if she realises who I am. Previously when I visited it was easier to communicate with her. I am very satisfied with her care as I know it can be difficult to care for her."

"It's a difficult time due to the pandemic. Weekly update letters/email from the head office are informative and reassuring. All the staff continue to care and look after our loved ones; they are amazing! My mum seems to be happy in Hyacinth House and its lovely to be able to see her in the garden now."

"I am extremely happy with the care Mum receives at Hyacinth House. Mum loves being there and enjoys the plentiful food, activities, and signing with other residents. The staff has been very understanding and supportive when we could not visit Mum as often due to my husband being unwell. Thank you to all the staff who welcome us and care for Mum."

"My mother was admitted to Hyacinth House as an emergency in November 2019 following a fall and fracture. This has given me great peace of mind as I can see how well looked after she is and how happy she is. As a nurse myself good care, high-quality food and friendly approachable staff are important to me. I can truly say that she is well cared for and very happy."

"My mum had to be admitted into the care home following several falls, the last one resulted in a hip fracture. The home welcomed her with open arms and she settled into the home within a few weeks. For me, as a nurse, it was important that I felt listened to as I know the things that were important to her in her life. These are respected by the staff who actively encourage her to socialise and take part in the activities within the home."

"Our father lived at The Wimborne for 18 months and our experience was that the staff go out of their way to know their residents and make them feel at home. We have nothing but praise and thanks for the way in which he was cared for. The décor of the rooms may be a little tired but the care and the general bright and happy atmosphere completely outweigh this."

"We have searched high and low for a residential care home for my wife's aunt, for whom we have power of attorney, that meets her needs and provides her with a comfortable and stimulating environment where she can be happy. We do feel The Wimborne Care Home is the right place for her. The staff ratios are very good, and yesterday we met the current manager who gives us confidence in the home and the way it is run."

"My mum recently came to The Wimborne for respite care as an emergency, however, it was a blessing in disguise. All the staff have been fantastic in making her welcome, helping her settle in difficult circumstances and caring for her superbly. That has made it a very easy decision for mum to move here full time. It's peace of mind for us as her family to know she is happy and well cared for 24 hours a day."

"Our Mum was admitted as a matter of emergency but what a gift from the gods this turned out to be! We are so happy that Mum is able to make this her permanent home. The staff are all amazing, their patience, care, hard work and dedication (not to mention a very necessary sense of humour!) has been excellent and has never flagged under some very difficult circumstances. Thanks to their expertise, kindness and endless patience Mum is flourishing again! I cannot recommend them highly enough, and thank them from the bottom of my heart for everything they do."
