Activities at Kingfisher Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Off to Puxton Park

Another Wednesday at kingfisher Lodge means out comes the mini bus keys! Karen and George this week are taking some residents to Puxton Park in Weston Super Mare.

From new furry baby piglets to feeding the baby lambs , fun was had by all that went along to this weeks trip. Any trip involving animals is always a loved trip by all. And any trip when Karen the chef tags along will always be full of fun and laughter.

The residents loved the leisurely strolls around the gardens and enjoyed watching the young children skipping happily and excitedly awaiting their turn to feed the baby animals.

This was a beautiful peaceful day enjoyed with a lovely pot of tea and a cream cake. No doubt this will be on this list for a future visit.

Yeeehaaa!

We've celebrated the horse racing which has been on over the last few weeks including Cheltenham Gold cup and the Grand National.

The residents and staff really enjoyed getting involved and picking a horse for the race. Every single person in the home including staff and visitors were given a horse and joined in the excitement of watching the race all together. Lots of shouting, screaming and cheering could be heard from the garden from both floors of the home. Prizes of large boxes of chocolate for 1st place winners and rosettes for all placed winners. This is always a winning afternoon for the residents and we cant wait to celebrate Ladies day at the races in June.

An activity enjoyed by all, full of fun and lots of prizes. Thanks to Kelly and the team for making it happen.

Baking at Kingfisher Lodge

At Kingfisher lodge we have been busy with the baking equipment this week. Our residents always have  so much fun in our baking sessions and this week they have been cooking up a storm with some delicious biscuits.

Some of our lovely residents couldn’t wait for them to cool before tucking in to the delicious homemade treats they had made.

It was lovely to sit and chat with our residents as we talked about the found memories that had of baking with their families. One resident who tucked in before they went into the oven told us how their mum always used to let them do a quick taste test.

Noah's Ark Zoo

Our residents love any activities involving animals. In last weeks residents meetings residents came up with the idea of a trip to the Zoo. George the activity lead is known for saying yes to everything, before he thinks through the logistics. He knew from the meeting there will be a lots of residents wanting to go., and he couldn’t wait to start planning. But thanks to an incredible display of team work and a whole home approach,  having members of housekeeping , kitchen  and a host, volunteering for a day with  elephants, lions .and residents. The residents loved seeing all the animals and spending the whole day out. Amongst the favourites were the new elephant Uli, feeding the giant tortoise, seeing the grizzly bears, giraffes, camels and realising that spring is in the air by meeting the new baby lambs. The residents will do a talk on the whole day, when we’ve printed the photos, so all the other residents and staff that didn’t get to go will be able to see what a great day we had.

Off to spot the Kingfishers

Our monthly residents meetings have a lot of focus on organising the trips that the residents want to go on. This trip was put into our residents heads by Bella one of our Duke of Edinburgh students. She loved her visit to Slimbridge with her school , that started the staff remembering going here too , but the residents had not been, “That’s our next trip” they all said together.

When we arrived, we were so excited to find out that the latest sightings at Slimbridge were of 4 kingfishers nesting in the mud banks, that very day. The staff at Slimbridge gave us lots of tips on how to improve our chances of spotting the Kingfishers on our way round, on the mud banks we only encountered the otters. But we were all soon cheered up by the beautiful flamingos. Lots of birds to see and even feed we had a great day walking through the beautiful grounds.

Everyone wants to go again to try and spot the Kingfishers
