Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Tea at The Hub

A weekend of very pleasant weather gave us the opportunity to take the residents into Melbourn. We stopped off for coffee and cakes at The Hub in Melbourn High Street.

The residents had plenty of choice of hot or cold refreshments and a great selection of freshly prepared cakes. There were plenty of smiles and full bellies by the time we got back to the home.

A great day out was had by all and we certainly look forward to the next visit to The Hub.

A week in the life of Melbourn Springs

We have had a great week this week at Melbourn Springs with lots of activities for the residents to enjoy.

The excellent Cara Bo - Singer treated the residents to her full rendition of some all-time classics. The guides have been into Melbourn Springs to sit and talk with the residents. We have been out and about in Duxford Village where the residents were spoilt with tea and cakes. There have also been lots of in-house activites including golf, skittles and bean bag games.

This afternoon we have cheese and wine tasting to look forward to.

Here comes the sun

When the sun is shining we love nothing more than being outside with the residents. The ice creams were very welcome and the summer songs made for the perfect afternoon.

Here's hoping for a long summer with lots of sunshine and lots more memories to be made.

Phoebe's Place outing

We had a lovely day out with the residents at Phoebe's Place in Weston. Beautiful view, surrounded by fields and trees. The owners, Gill and Phoebe, came and joined us to say hello. It was a very chilled afternoon with the residents sitting in the sun or enjoying a safe walk in the field. Even though it was a bit breezy, the afternoon was a huge hit with everyone and we will certainly be back.

Fine dining at Melbourn Springs

We pride ourselves on the quality of food that we provide our residents here at Melbourn Springs.

One of our 3 course lunchtime meals this week was a starter of Beetroot and Brie salad followed by a main course of Moroccan Lamb finished with a dessert of Chocolate Mousse. This can be served with a glass of wine or a cold beer if requested.

Our talented team is led by Phil our head chef. Phil and his team always go the extra mile to ensure that the dining experience at Melbourn Springs is second to none.

Raising Money for Home-Start

Melbourn Springs have been raising money for Home-Start this year. This is a charity that supports families through Home-Visiting Service and Family Support Groups and has assisted over 80 families in the past year.

Melbourn Springs were over the moon to present the proceeds from their Christmas Fayre to Home-Start Fundraising Events Support Manager, Tracy Aggett. Donations for the Fayre came from the families of the residents and staff and provided tombola and raffle prizes. Proceeds from visiting Father Christmas were added to this and a whooping £475.90 was raised!

Tracy came to collect the donation which will go towards supporting more families with young children and she said, ‘Thank you so much to everyone involved with Melbourn Springs. We are so grateful for such an amazing donation!’ Tracy can be seen with Eileen, one of the residents and a lovely tray of money!

Activities Lead, Denise Ashby said ‘It has been a privilege to support such a worthy charity and we are looking forward to holding a coffee morning on February 14th, Valentine’s Day, to support them even further. Please look out for posters!’
