Activities at Pentland View Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

A walk on the wild side

Residents, staff and visitors were delighted by a visit from the Caithness Animal Farm park as they took a walk on the wild side! The weather even cooperated and stayed dry long enough for an outdoor experience and the animals were so wonderful and well behaved!

The Caithness Animal Farm Park brought a selection of their small animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, tortoises, a snake, and a leopard gecko to visit the residents. Eve4ryone very much enjoyed holding and cuddling the animals, and many were even brave enough to cuddle the snake!

Celebrating Cadbury's

Residents across our services had a wonderful time joining Cadbury for an interactive virtual talk on their fascinating 200-year history.

Residents joining learnt interesting facts about the chocolate giant, shared memories, and reminisced about their favourite sweet treats.

It was a heartwarming experience filled with laughter, nostalgia, and plenty of chocolatey goodness!

Residents enjoy northerly outing

Residents at Pentland View made the most out of Friday’s beautiful weather and headed to John O Groats for a nostalgic day out. The sun must be enjoyed while it’s here and what better way to do it than with a trip that brings back so many memories?

Residents boarded the mini bus and headed off for their afternoon out. The day was made extra special as it was resident Barbara Thomson’s birthday! The birthday girl was treated to some delicious coffee and brownies from Stacks and it would have been rude for the rest of the residents and staff on the outing not to join in too!

Residents join Big Quiz

Staff and residents from Barchester’s Pentland View care home, in Thurso, joined fellow keen quizzers from over 250 Barchester care homes and hospitals across the whole of the UK, including Wales, Scotland, Jersey and the Isle of Wight, to put their collective general knowledge to the test.

The second Barchester Big Quiz took place on 30th April 2024 when Pentland View got super competitive and took on its sister homes from all over the country to find out which Barchester home or hospital had the best quizzers.  From historical humdingers and geographical gazumpers to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums, the homes battled it out to find out who would prevail.

History of the Titanic with Oomph

We enjoyed an afternoon of reminisce we learnt about the Titanic on the anniversary of its maiden voyage.  We logged into Oomph and watched real footage of the Titanic in port. We also watched footage of the crash site and wreckage. The residents were very interested as we looked back at the Titanic, which launched on May 31, 1911, and set sail on its maiden voyage from Southampton on April 10, 1912, with 2,240 passengers and crew on board.

Book Club Corner

Residents were delighted when the homes local Tesco kindly donated a large selection of books for our residents to enjoy.  We have a number of vivid readers and we are enjoying going through them to find our favourite genres and authors, we have also recently received a great selection of wildlife books which were kindly given to us by the local Boys Brigade.  We are looking forward to time spent reading them all!
