Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator is constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. We have regular outings in the mini bus to nearby places of interest including local garden centres and parks as well as musicians and entertainers. We also hold bingo evenings which are helped out by our residents families. We also have a local pub nearby which the residents enjoy visiting from time to time for a spot of lunch or sitting in the gardens in the summer time. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests as best is possible. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Emma Powers

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Emma Powers; I am the Activities Coordinator here at Sherwood Lodge.

I have worked in the care sector for over two decades; prior to this I was a soldier in the UK Armed Forces where I gained exceptional powers of communication, organisation and teamwork. During my time as a carer I have gained my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and have been employed as a Senior Carer. I chose to switch professional roles to activities as I find supporting both residential and dementia residents very rewarding.

I have been employed within Barchester for over three years, I love working for this company and am really excited to continue to care for all of its residents and their families.

Dancing to the Golden Oldies

We have been getting our groove on today at Sherwood Lodge.

We have had an afternoon of golden oldies performed by Dave Odlum, which has had us all up on our feet.

Music is food for the soul, and our residents, staff and visitors thoroughly enjoyed every moment.

May Day Celebrations

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Sherwood Lodge care home in Preston celebrated May Day in style with a garden party and a whole lot of springtime fun!  There were homemade bakes, music and singing and of course dancing around the May pole.  The home welcomed Sherwood Primary school children to join for the afternoon and take part in all the fun.

Residents had been very busy for weeks making the May pole and crowning it and also making garlands for the day. Everyone enjoyed involved in the festivities and getting the home and garden ready for the big day.

Sherwood Lodge Music

It's a well-known fact that music brings people together, and we have certainly proved that at Sherwood Lodge this week.

We have welcomed a new entertainer into our home, Johnny North, and what a wonderful time we all had.

Residents, staff and visitors were all up on their feet to the melodies of Sir Cliff, Elvis and many many more.

Thank you Johnny for helping us all relive our youth.
