Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Sharandys Birds Of Prey

Sharandys Birds Of Prey brought some very interesting birds with them when they came to visit the residents last week.  It is a lovely feeling to smooth an owl, the feathers are incredibly smooth and it is amusing the way they turn their heads, it is a wonderful afternoon learning about the birds, observing and touching them. The afternoon starts with a selection of birds in the lounge then room visits are offered with one bird, this way everyone is offered to see a bird.

Charlie the donkey

The residents had a wonderful time meeting Charlie the donkey who came from Kelly’s donkeys last week.  Charlie was so well behaved and brought a smile to all our residents faces! Charlie started off his visiting in the reception area then headed off to the lounge before going round the home to do room visits.  Before entering any rooms we asked the resident if they would like to meet Charlie, “who’s Charlie?” some of them asked, and when Charlie walked in their faces were a picture! Charlie brought a great deal of happiness, joy and emotion to our residents.

Harvest Festival

The residents at Henford House celebrated Harvest Festival in church service, Eva from Christ Church took the service and Pam our piano player played for the selection of hymns.  Resident Peter read a reading out loud and everyone sang very well and appreciate these types of service can take place as it is important for many of our residents that they can follow their faith.  At this time of year Henford House starts a collection box for Warminster food bank which we have done for many years now and realise how many members of the community rely on this.

New kiln for pottery

We are thrilled to have our new kiln in place for our pottery sessions.  Pottery has been running for many years here at Henford House supervised by our potter Alvin and volunteer Sally, many residents enjoy creating their projects and when they have the finished result they like to give them to family and friends.  The old kiln gave up a couple years ago and all the residents work had to go to Radstock to get kilned which has taken some time for the residents to complete their projects, but now we have this new one on site the finished results will be coming back much quicker now!
