Activities at Arbour Court Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a variety of activities and events for all residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus, visits from entertainers and musicians and small group and individual activities in quiet yet stimulating environments. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect resident individual interests as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Aimee Pickford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Aimee and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator & Dementia Champion here at Arbour Court. In 2019 I received my Level 3 Health and Social Care and decided I wanted to help and enrich the lives of others.

I started working at Arbour Court in January 2021 as a Care Assistant and progressed to be a Senior Carer. In October 2023 I moved onto the activities team as an Activities Team Leader. I love my role as one of our homes Activities Co-ordinators and love to find new and exciting ways to engage our residents.

I am also a Dementia Champion and work closely with our General Manager, Lisa and other Dementia Champions to implement Barchester's Dementia Framework within the home.

Being part of Arbour Court's family is very rewarding and I feel lucky to work in a great environment.

Life at Arbour Court Care Home

,

National Photography day

Our residents explored our garden and ground to take picturesque photographs our plants, flowers and decorations within the building using our instamatic camera. Our instamatic camera uses film and prints out a Polaroid picture. Residents were eager to find out what their photo looked like whilst waiting for the picture to develop.

Trips to Etherow Park

Taking advantage of the lovely weather, we took a trip to Etherow Country Park Marple’s local beauty spot. Members of staff and families took the opportunity of the amazing weather and relaxed and chatted whist they fed the local wildlife such as ducks and geese and overlooking the scenic views of the lake and the sailing model boats.

Walter the Therapy dog

Walter is Arbour Court’s Animal Therapy dog. Animal Therapy benefits our dementia residents mentally and physically by encouraging residents to exercise by walking or playing with Walter and helps our residents to reminisce about any pets or animal memories they may have. Walter loves spending time with our staff, families and residents and loves walking and receiving lots and lots of cuddles.

Birthday Celebrations

Birthday celebrations are a firm fixture on our life enrichment programme and we are only too delighted to celebrate each and every one of our residents birthdays. Our residents room and living space is decorated with balloons and banners and residents are presented with a homemade personalised birthday cake, present and card to celebrate their special day.

National Smoothie Day

During our Barchester Moving week we celebrated National Smoothie day and spoke about the benefits of exercise and eating healthy. We displayed a range of juices and fruit for residents to make their own smoothies. Residents loved independently making their own drinks and couldn’t get enough of their fruity drinks.

Father’s Day Brunch

To celebrate Father’s Day we hosting a Father’s Day afternoon tea. We played hit songs from the 50 and 60’s. We all dance and sang away while enjoying light snacks and drinks such as beers and pork pies. This event brought so much laughter and joy to our residents and enabled them to stay active and keep their mind alive by reminiscing about the songs they were hearing.
