Activites at Arbour Court Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a variety of activities and events for all residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus, visits from entertainers and musicians and small group and individual activities in quiet yet stimulating environments. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect resident individual interests as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Aimee Pickford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Aimee and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator & Dementia Champion here at Arbour Court. In 2019 I received my Level 3 Health and Social Care and decided I wanted to help and enrich the lives of others.

I started working at Arbour Court in January 2021 as a Care Assistant and progressed to be a Senior Carer. In October 2023 I moved onto the activities team as an Activities Team Leader. I love my role as one of our homes Activities Co-ordinators and love to find new and exciting ways to engage our residents.

I am also a Dementia Champion and work closely with our General Manager, Lisa and other Dementia Champions to implement Barchester's Dementia Framework within the home.

Being part of Arbour Court's family is very rewarding and I feel lucky to work in a great environment.

Barchester gets moving!

Arbour Court took part in the Get Barchester Moving initiative to raise money and move minutes for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation. As a home, we gained over 290 hours’ worth of move minutes by having danceathons, sports days, Zumba sessions and armchair tennis for all families, residents and staff to enjoy.

During Barchester get moving week we also celebrated Tour De Barchester. We held an indoor Bike Marathon to see how far we could get as a home. Our indoor bike marathon was open to family, friends, visitors, staff and residents. As a whole, we cycled 410 miles, which equates to cycling from Glasgow to Cornwall.

Father's Day

Father's Day

To celebrate Father’s Day we are hosting a Father’s Day afternoon tea. We have the fantastic singer Burnie, playing the top hits from 50’s and 60’s.

We all danced and sang away while enjoying light snacks and drinks such as beers and pork pies. This event brought so much laughter and joy to our residents and enabled them to stay active and keep their minds alive by reminiscing about the songs they were hearing.

Ladies Day at Aintree

There is no event in the social calendar quite as revered as Royal Ascot. After all, it’s reserved for the best; the best in racing, the best in hospitality – and, of course, the best in style.

There really is nothing quite like enjoying a British summer’s day and here at Arbour Court we are doing it with the most beautiful and amazing ladies and dashing gents having Afternoon Tea on the patio celebrating Ladies Day 2025.

Inspiring ladies and gents, sparkling wit and conversation all served up with fantastic weather, quaffing refreshing Mimosas paired with luscious sweet treats.

Jaws and claws

Residents loved our jaws and claws animal therapy session, seeing animals such as various lizards, geckos, chinchillas, snakes and tortoises.

This Jaws and claws event was held as our residents wanted reptile animal therapy and voiced their opinion in our monthly resident meetings.

Residents loved seeing the exotic animals and reminiscing about pets they had owned. One resident explained how it reminded him of a snake he has seen in a tree in a local woodland area when he was playing cricket.

Dementia Disco

Every Wednesday morning we have Beth from Motion Dance for our weekly Dementia Disco! Our residents love dancing away to their favourite songs.

Our dementia disco activity brings reminiscence of our favourite songs as well, promoting the use of gross motor skills and promoting independence. Our disco fit sessions are Wednesday morning, alternating floors every week. Loved ones are welcome to join us free of charge.

This VE Day, I remember my dad

This VE Day, I remember my dad

Reminiscing about the soldiers in the war and members of our families who fought. The conversation centres around 'Remembering Dad'. Some could recall Dad's name and the position he held or the Regiment he was in.

Everyone remarked how much community spirit was around at the time and knowing you could depend on your neighbours. VE Day celebrations with street parties and everyone coming together.

VE Day Garden Party

What a wonderful day! We celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a lovely garden party here at Arbour Court. Our residents, families, and staff came together to mark this special occasion with music, laughter, and memories.

A fantastic singer kept us all entertained with classic tunes, while we enjoyed delicious cakes and sunshine in our beautifully decorated garden. It was a joyful tribute to a day we remembered those who fought for us, and we thanked them from the bottom of our hearts.

Incredible Eggs is an ethical company that provides care settings for hatching chicken eggs. We successfully hatched 6 duckling eggs. Our residents loved watching the eggs hatch from their shells and once the ducklings got stronger, we enjoyed stroking and feeding them.

The ducklings lived in our hairdressing station and residents, families and friends were able to visit them on a 1-1 basis whenever they wished. This was an unforgettable experience.
