Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Fun filled morning with Musical Moments

We had another fantastic from Musical Moments! The session was jam packed with fun, dancing and laughing.

It was fantastic to see so many of our residents engaging and having so much fun. We think Maggie does an amazing job and we're very lucky to have her come in!

World Mental Health Day

This day is held every year to help raise mental health awareness.

We spent the morning enjoying a trip out to the local café with Shelbie and Leoni, whilst in the home residents enjoyed a creative craft session, making a positivity tree for World Mental Health Day.

Residents were encouraged to write down their feelings and express what makes them happy and what makes them feel good.

Throughout the day some of our residents gathered together in the lounges to share their advice and thoughts for staying positive and the importance of positive thinking over a cuppa, which was a great success.

We had a lovely day full of lots of positivity and laughter.

- Mental Health is not a destination, but a process. It’s about how you drive, not where you’re going.

You are not alone.

World Smile Day

Yesterday was World Smile Day and we all we know what an impact a smile can make to someones day!

Activities Coordinator, Leoni wanted to find out what made our residents and team smile the most and it opened up the most wonderful discussions about what was and is important to people.

Roald Dahl Day

We had a gloriumptious time celebrating the British novelist, short-story writer, poet, screenwriter and wartime fighter pilot Roald Dahl.

This year our theme was The BFG.

Throughout the day, our residents got involved in a variety of fun-filled activities, including a Roald Dahl themed quiz and activity booklets provided by the Oomph Wellness team, dream jar making, and even enjoyed trying on The BFG’S ears themselves!

The residents had a hopscotchy afternoon watching The BFG on the telly-telly bunkum box with scumdiddlyumptious snozzcumber sandwiches, Roald Dahl’s edible books, cakes and our very own frobscottle!

We all had a fantastic day.

In Honour of Her Majesty the Queen

During the national period of mourning, we spent time reminiscing and celebrating the memory and reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Reverend Karen Gardiner held a special commemorative service at the home in honour of Her Majesty the Queen, we reminisced about brighter times and our spectacular Jubilee celebration’s.

Throughout the week we shared memories and had many discussions about the amazing achievements and milestones of the Queen.

Residents enjoyed reading and learning about the Queens hobbies, interests and her inspirational reign with booklets provided by Oomph Wellness.

For many of our residents, the Queen represented comfort, hope and peace over the past seven decades of her so sovereignty, she will be sorely missed.

Cake Decorating

The residents have had a great morning decorating some cakes and biscuits for the afternoon tea round.

Baking with residents who live with dementia allows them to relive memories through tactile movement, familiar smells and flavours. It also evokes a sense of purpose and enjoyable social stimulation.

It's always a good day when cakes are involved!
