Activities at Hunters Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Read our brochure ‘Life-enriching activities’ for more information about life in our care homes.

Ben Sandall
Activities Coordinator
Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters. I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity. I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.
Celebrating life at Hunters Care Home
Drama Academy Visit
What a special treat we had on Saturday as we were visited by the amazing children of Thomford Academy in Swindon. Our residents were thrilled to be introduced to each fantastic member as well as enjoying simply brilliant performances.
The Thomford Academy teaches acting, singing, dancing and musical theatre for ages 4–18. We were all blown away, not just with how talented the children were, but also with how happy and confident everyone was. A wonderful morning. Thank you to Dee and Nicki and all the performers. You were fantastic!
Cheese and wine afternoon
The return of a favourite at Hunters yesterday as we held a delicious cheese and wine afternoon.
It’s no surprise that we had a great turn out to sample a range of delicious cheeses, all chosen by the residents, washed down a glass of red or white wine. Lots of fun and good discussion over which was the tastiest combination of cheese, biscuit and chutney! As well as suggestions for the next food tasting event…sausages and cider anyone? Watch this space!
Therapy dog visits
We are very lucky at Hunters to have a fantastic Pets As Therapy dog called Lix that visits us regularly.
Accompanied by her lovely owner Louise, the pair have been coming to the home for a few years now and as you can see they bring smiles to everyone they meet.
These visits are so important to our residents who love to reminisce about past pets of their own whilst meeting Lix and giving her treats for very good behaviour.
Dot’s 90th Birthday Celebrations
A fantastic celebration today for one of our wonderful residents, Dot, who turned 90 today!
Dot threw her very own birthday party, surrounded by family and friends who had come from as far as Madrid to help her celebrate this amazing milestone. With a delicious buffet and beautiful cake supplied by our own kitchen team, the smiles on Dot’s face showed how much the celebration meant to her. Happy Birthday, Dot, from everyone at Hunters.
Candlelight Christmas
A brilliant candlelight festive piano concert at Hunters this evening, as we were joined by the fantastic PianoHedgehog once again.
Rob led the residents in a whole host of magical Christmas carols and classic songs. Everyone was in a fantastic voice, and we were all left feeling more festive than ever, aided by a glass of sherry or two. A wonderful evening, thank you, Rob, we all had a lovely time.
Farm shop trips
We have been making the most of the drier weather over the last couple of weeks and visiting our neighbours at the wonderful The Organic Farm Shop, Abbey Home Farm.
Residents had lots of fun exploring the shop, buying some treats before enjoying a nice cuppa and cake in the café. All whilst reminiscing about getting out and about in Cirencester in years gone by. Lots of fun, it was great to get out in the sunshine and have a relaxing time with friends.
Spoonful of Sugar Concert
What a magical afternoon at Hunters as we were joined by the incredible Emily from Mini Concerts who performed her amazing show “Spoonful of Sugar”, an amazing tribute to the music of Julie Andrews. From Mary Poppins to The King and I and, of course, the classic sound of music, Emily had everyone singing along beautifully for a truly wonderful and sometimes emotional afternoon.
Once again, music brought us all together for a moment of joy and happiness. Thank you so much Emily, it was “practically perfect in every way!”
Country and Western Party
A few pictures from our recent Country and Western party here at Hunters. Always a fun afternoon and the room was packed out with residents looking forward to hearing some of their favourite country classics. With live music from the fantastic Donna Chalcraft who performed a range of songs for our residents.
A great afternoon singing along followed by delicious tea and cake. Yee-haw!
Viola concert
Another great turn out for the always brilliant Philip Heyman who came and performed a viola concert for us on the weekend.
Philip plays a mixture of classical, operatic and contemporary pieces that always bring smiles to the faces of our residents, their families and friends.
A wonderful afternoon and we can’t wait to invite Philip again in the future.
Festive food
A great day of festive food at Hunters. First, our Memory Lane residents had fun decorating Christmas gingerbread biscuits. Lots of laughter and maybe a little mess, but the end results were fantastic, and delicious with a nice cuppa.
Then our General Community had a go at making peppermint creams in festive colours. Again, fun and amusement was had making these yummy treats that the residents enjoyed eating or saving to give to family and friends as Christmas gifts.
Overall, a brilliant, delicious day!
Fifties, Sixties and Seventies Music Party!
What a fun time we had this week as we celebrated music at our 50s/60s/70s Party!
With a live performance from the always brilliant Earl Tee Music. Solo who had us singing and dancing away with music from throughout the decades. As usual, the music we love brought us all together for an amazing afternoon of friendship and joy.
Valentine's Party
Happy Valentine’s Day from everyone at Hunters.
Yesterday love was in the air as we celebrated with a fantastic party. With live music from the always amazing PianoHedgehog Rob, who had us all singing along with some classic love songs. This was followed by a delicious cream tea provided by our kitchen team.
Such a great afternoon of fun, romance and yummy treats!
Ear health workshop
Today we were joined by Leightons Opticians who held a Ear Health Workshop here at Hunters.
Open to our own residents as well as the local community, Mirna and Amanda gave hearing tests and gave advice about good ear health and how to look after and maintain your hearing aids.
A great session with lots of helpful information for everyone that attended.
Happy New Year!
As we reflect on the year, we want to take this opportunity to express our deepest thanks to our incredible team. Your commitment, compassion, and professionalism shine through every single day. Whether it’s providing comfort, support, laughter, or going the extra mile when it’s needed most, you make a real and meaningful difference to the lives of our residents and their families.
We are incredibly proud of all that has been achieved in 2025 and so grateful for the care, patience, and kindness that has been shown day in and day out. To our wonderful residents, their families and friends we want to thank you all for your continued support and wish you all a happy and healthy 2026!
Festive fitness
Our final Gfitness session of the year took place this week, and it definitely had a Christmas feel. The residents wore festive hats as Matt led them through some chair-based exercises all along to some classic Christmas music.
These fitness sessions with Matt are one of the most popular activities on our weekly planner, being great for encouraging mobility in our residents as well as providing a fun and social environment for them to enjoy.
We can’t wait to welcome Matt back for more fitness fun in 2026.
