Activities at Hyacinth House Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Celebrating life at Hyacinth House Care Home

Celebrating Harvest
Hyacinth keeping active
What a week it’s been at Hyacinth House! As part of Barchester’s Getting to Move campaign, we decided to give our lovely residents the full VIP treatment when it comes to exercise.
From gentle chair stretch to balloon games, musical movement to resistance band workouts in the garden, we covered all bases — and muscles.
Our goal? Boosting health, mobility, and confidence — and maybe just slightly tiring everyone out.
Fresh Air on the Farm
With the sun shining, we couldn’t resist hopping into the minibus and heading to the hidden gem that is Brothers Farm.
What a place! Surrounded by stunning nature and blooming flowers, it’s the perfect spot for anyone who loves the outdoors.

CHUK Award
We are thrilled to announce that Hyacinth House has done it again for the second year in a row. We have been honoured with the Care Home UK Award, voted by our residents and their families.
This incredible achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team. We are all bursting with pride at this recognition of our commitment to providing exceptional care and support.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this incredible journey. Your trust and confidence mean the world to us! Here's to many more years of excellence at Hyacinth House.
Hydration and nutrition week
Throughout the week, our residents had a blast exploring tasty foods and refreshing drinks, from zesty smoothies, crunchy salads to refreshing desserts.
There was something for everyone to enjoy.

SOBO Beach
What a perfect summer’s day to spend at a beautiful SOBO Beach, and we even walked all the way down and back up.
The sky was blue, the sun was shining, and the sea, a stunning lazurite blue with waves practically waving back at us. We enjoyed a fresh sea breeze, something our residents dearly missed and appreciated.
Evening Social
VE Day Celebrations
We celebrated VE Day with our residents, who enjoyed reminiscing about their experiences.
A highlight was hearing one resident share her remarkable story as a Land Girl, which she recounted during a BBC interview focused on women's roles in World War II. Her vivid memories and insights provided a meaningful connection to the historical significance of the day, enriching our celebration with personal narratives that honoured the contributions of women during the war.

Mother's Day
At Hyacinth House, we celebrated Mother’s Day in the most charming way with a delightful afternoon cream tea and a wonderful Sally, the Vintage Singer.
She serenaded us with beautiful tunes from the ’40s, ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s, taking us on a nostalgic journey through time.
Wishing all Mums around the world a very Happy Mother’s Day – from all of us at Hyacinth House.
Celebrating London Fashion Week
Residents and local community enjoyed an informative talk and demonstration from Sandra from local company Charmworth Miniatures. Sandra who has a long standing love of preloved and vintage fabrics, crafts and all things miniature creates unique collections of colourful miniatures. She bought along her collection of beautiful designs from the 50s and 60s.
Sandra certainly designs to inspire and delight. Her handiwork sparks lovely memories of poodle skirts, favourite dresses, and the joy of sewing our own clothes. It was a joy to see everyone reminiscing and sharing stories of the fashion they enjoyed in their youth.
Baby goat therapy
We were thrilled to welcome back our favourite little troublemakers. Well, they’re not so little any more.
These cheerful outdoor pets have a knack for turning any ordinary day into an extraordinary one for our residents and staff.
We cannot wait to see them again.

Exploring Dorset
This week, our residents set off on trips to soak up the sights of Dorset, from the picturesque Moors Valley to the grand Highcliffe Castle, all while the sun decided to grace us with its presence.
Some residents have never had the opportunity to explore this beautiful historical castle. We were happy to deliver as there's nothing better than to see the fascination on their faces.
Thai Event
At Hyacinth House, the Charitable Thai event was a resounding success, bringing together residents, visitors and our colleagues for an enjoyable day filled with a vibrant atmosphere, delightful Thai cuisine and live music from the talented Jewel Harmonies.
Our attendees engaged in lively conversations and participated in a ruffle game, with some lucky winners taking home prizes.
A heartfelt thank-you goes out to our Activities Coordinator, Anna, for organising the event, the Hospitality Team for providing delicious food and to our wonderful deputy for the charming palm fruit tree decoration.
We appreciate everyone who supported our Regional Directors charity cook-off, our team at Hyacinth House and contributed to the success of the Barchester's Charitable Foundation. The funds will support those who are in need.
101st Birthday Celebrations
Happy 101st Birthday to our lovely resident Michael! We had the absolute pleasure of celebrating 101 incredible years with our dear Michael and what a celebration it was. A homemade birthday cake, warm company and celebrations made this day a special one for Mike.
Mike has lived a life full of adventure – during WWII, he soared through the skies as a RAF pilot and after the war, he kept things running smoothly as a Post Master. From delivering letters to delivering smiles, he's always been a man on a mission.
Mike, you are an inspiration to us all, and we wish you all the best on your remarkable journey ahead. Here’s to more stories, more cake, and many more wonderful moments. Feel free to leave your birthday wishes for Michael in the comments.
Keep on Moving!
