Activities at Hyacinth House Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Activities Lead

Hello, my name is Melanie and I love my role as Activities Coordinator at Hyacinth House and enjoy creating many moments of joy. I began my career in Early Years Education working with babies, toddlers and preschoolers, where I gained my Early Years Teacher status.

However, when my daughter joined a care home in 2020, she suggested that I become an Activities Coordinator and I haven’t looked back since. I am a happy person and I enjoy sharing that enthusiasm with the residents and ensuring that I provide meaningful activities and experiences for everyone. In my spare time I love to read, walk and spend time in nature exploring.

Celebrating life at Hyacinth House Care Home

Spring is officially in the air

Spring is officially in the air

It’s been wonderful to see our residents out in the back garden, soaking up the warmth and getting to work.

Our residents have decided it’s officially their turn to take the lead on some garden improvements now that winter has finally left us.

They’ve been busy scouting the best sun spots and mapping out where the new blooms should go. We look forward to seeing the results.

A trip to Kingston Lacy

A trip to Kingston Lacy

We had such a lovely morning at Kingston Lacy.

The weather was absolutely beautiful, and the coffee was delicious.

It was the perfect way to start the day.

Knit and natter

Knit and natter

Knit and Natter in action once again.

This morning we welcomed some new faces and shared lots of laughter. It’s been wonderful to see some members rediscover their long-lost knitting skills too.

Another great morning at Hyacinth House.

Baking time

Baking time

We decided to get creative this morning, and it definitely paid off.

Fresh and crunchy cheesecakes that turned out so tasty, and the smell of baking filled the whole home.

Even our lovely guest joined in and got her hands messy with us, making it all the more fun.

Indian Cuisine and learning Indian tradition

Indian Cuisine and learning Indian tradition

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful Indian-themed lunch.

Our talented kitchen team prepared a delicious two-course meal filled with warming spices and rich flavours for everyone to enjoy together.

Residents were served a tasty main course of beef korma and butter chicken accompanied by traditional and colourful sides. It was lovely to see everyone embracing something a little different and enjoying the experience together.

Love to move

Love to move

I have been looking at the website and noticed that we have 2 posts for the same activity. Baking time. Please can you remove one of them.

I have attached another exercise activity to update our activities page.

The room was buzzing today. Katie from Love to Move Dorset delivered another wonderful session. It is such a joy to watch our residents' faces light up.

Learning about Romanian culture

Learning about Romanian culture

Our residents and colleagues had a wonderful opportunity to learn about and explore Romanian culture. Our staff members Anamaria, Oana, and Maggie shared some lovely insights into their heritage, bringing along traditional foods, handmade pottery, and beautiful clothing to help us experience a little piece of Romania. Our residents enjoyed getting to know our staff and their background and there were many questions asked.

Game time

Game time

We had a wonderful day full of games and laughter. Anna couldn’t resist getting our residents moving and  cheering each other on.
But Rita was the lead winner each time.

We enjoy coming together and having some laughter.

Retail therapy

Retail therapy

Our residents had a fantastic Friday morning out at the Allendale Centre in Wimborne for some retail therapy. It was a busy trip filled with both "needs" and "wants", from picking up those essential day-to-day items to finding a few special treats to spoil themselves with.

After a successful morning of browsing, residents and staff enjoyed a lovely little break to rest their legs and catch up before heading back home, just in time for a delicious lunch.

Gentleman's afternoon out

Gentleman's afternoon out

Our residents had a fantastic time on their recent visit to the local pub with Matt.

There was plenty of laughter all around, and the atmosphere was full of joy and great company. The highlight of the visit was a fun (and slightly tricky) quiz, which brought out some friendly competition and wonderful teamwork.

A lovely outing enjoyed by all.

Miniature dolls

Miniature dolls

Sandra recently shared her wonderful 1940s “Make Do and Mend” miniature mannequins with our residents, sparking lots of interest and conversation.

The ladies thoroughly enjoyed learning about the history behind them, asking questions, and reminiscing together.

It was a lovely, engaging session, and everyone is already looking forward to the next one.

Relaxation session

Relaxation session

Jane Scanlan hosted a wonderful relaxation session for our residents today.

We love seeing how these meaningful experiences brighten their day and support their health, happiness and enriches our residents' lives.

Thank you once again for your precious time.

Enjoying hand massage and relaxation

Enjoying hand massage and relaxation

Face and hand massage was all we needed today, and it quickly turned into a lovely shared moment of relaxation.

Anne delivered wonderfully calming sessions, and we even enjoyed a little bubble treat that came with it.

A perfect way to pause, unwind, and recharge together.
