Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Courtney Doncaster
My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.
I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.
We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
Macmillan Coffee Morning
We held our very own Macmillan Coffee Morning in hope to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The morning was full of laughter and we also had a quiz. Everybody enjoyed cakes and of course a cup of coffee.
Saucy!
Residents at Maple Leaf together have made homemade apple sauce from the apples in the garden. The apples smelt so sweet. Ron, Sam, Peter and Brian all had a go at peeling and washing the apples and Head Chef, Andrew, helped with the cooking.
Pirate Day
On the 24th August, Maple Leaf held a garden fête with a pirate theme. Staff dressed as pirates for the day. We had a fun-filled day of pirate games, including 'pin the eye patch on the pirate', a treasure hunt, pirate ring toss, treasure chest piñata, walk the plank and cannon ball throw. The residents spent time in the garden in the lovely sunshine.
Divisional Chef of the Year
Congratulations to Andrew Neave, who has been named as a Divisional Winner in the 2020 Barchester Care Awards. Andrew is a finalist in the Chef of the Year category and has been invited to attend an awards ceremony on 8th October, where he will find out if he has won overall.
Wimbledon
Wimbledon should have started this July, but that didn’t stop us celebrating. Residents made their own tennis rackets and we played balloon tennis and, at half time, stopped for strawberries and cream and a glass of Pimm's.
World Chocolate Day
On 7th July, we celebrated World Chocolate Day. The day consisted of all things chocolate and the home was turned into a chocolate factory. In some of the chocolates we even found a golden ticket.
Activities Coordinator, Alison Bradley, and Activities Assistant, Courtney Doncaster, were dressed as Oompa Loompas for the day, dancing and handing out chocolates. We had a variety of different flavours to choose from.
