Activities at Mount Vale Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from PAT dogs, entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Louise Chapman

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Louise I have been working at Mount Vale since 2010. I am the activities co-ordinator, I am here to promote the wellbeing of our residents and ensure they have a variety of activities to get involved in. I love finding new creative ways to engage our residents and involve our local community.

I am a dementia champion for the home and enjoy continuing to learn and find more things I can do to help promote the wellbeing of our residents.

I love spending time with each individual getting to know them so I can add individual needs into our plans. I love building strong relationships with our residents and families.

I am a crafty person and can be found doing diamond arts and lots of other creative things when I am not at work. I love spending time with my family and going for walks with my dog Dottie and cuddling my cat Loki.

Roses galore at Mount Vale

Love was in the air for Residents when our local Sainsbury’s dropped off Red Roses for each of our ladies here at Mount Vale. As you can see they are absolutely beautiful. The ladies got together and arranged all of the flowers into individual little vases and  took them around to all of the ladies in the Home. Our residents were delighted, the whole home was a sea of red and perfumed!

Home brings whole new world of magic

Mount Vale Care Home in Northallerton has recently brought a bit of magic to residents by providing a new ‘Magic Table 360 and the Happiness Programme’ as a way to improve residents’ quality of life.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the Magic Table 360 uses interactive games to connect residents with staff and with each other, and research shows it improves the wellbeing of people living with dementia. Using interactive light projections, the Magic Table 360, which can be played independently or in a group, stimulates movement by inviting participants to take part in all sorts of different fun activities such as popping bubbles, playing the piano, colouring in pictures, sweeping leaves or interacting playfully with fish. Games are rich in colour, movement and detail, and allow people of all ages to play in a safe and comfortable environment.

The Magic Table 360 is portable so it can be used wherever residents feel most comfortable, it can be projected onto the floor, ceiling, walls, a whiteboard or even the bed. The Happiness Programme allows for a range of games that change seasonally and have country-specific versions covering 14 different categories, so there will always be something new for residents to try.

Daffodils from our friends

Yesterday our favourite little visitors from Rosedene Nursery come by and paid us a visit. They had spent the morning decorating jars and making them into vases. They filled them with daffodils and came round to drop them off for our residents.

This was a lovely surprise, our residents loved them. Alison and other residents commented on how much they missed their visits, as they enjoyed the reading corner we did weekly with them. We look forward to when we can get back to normal.

Exercising the Mind, Body and Soul

Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Mount Vale.   Today was a fun-filled game of pom-poms!

Every got really competitive, everyone wanted to beat each other and Residents really got into the event.

The home said “keeping active is good for Residents wellbeing as it helps with their hand eye coordination and is a good arm exercise to keep them muscles working.”

A breath of fresh air
