Activities at Mount Vale Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from PAT dogs, entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Louise Chapman
Hi my name is Louise I have been working at Mount Vale since 2010. I am the activities co-ordinator, I am here to promote the wellbeing of our residents and ensure they have a variety of activities to get involved in. I love finding new creative ways to engage our residents and involve our local community.
I am a dementia champion for the home and enjoy continuing to learn and find more things I can do to help promote the wellbeing of our residents.
I love spending time with each individual getting to know them so I can add individual needs into our plans. I love building strong relationships with our residents and families.
I am a crafty person and can be found doing diamond arts and lots of other creative things when I am not at work. I love spending time with my family and going for walks with my dog Dottie and cuddling my cat Loki.

Life at Mount Vale Care Home
Summer Fete
We held our annual Summer Fete recently; Aquaticfinatic pet therapy vistited and spent the day at the home, and there were lots of craft stalls and activities for the children to enjoy. Residents particularly liked the old army truck that we brought to the home for this special occasion. Pictured with the truck, is Coralie and Tim.
Our Sensory Garden
We have been fundraising for our sensory garden. With the funds we have raised so far, we have bought a new summer house for residents to enjoy all year long.
Preparing for Open Weekend
We are holding our Open Weekend on 18th June, which inlcudes a flower festival and a history of the Mount. We did some flower arranging to ensure that the home is as warm and welcoming as it can possibly be.
Supporting Dementia friendly Yorkshire
Health Education England has funded training for care home staff enabling them to become facilitators in person centered Dementia Care. The training from Bradford School of Dementia studies is an intensive short course that equips the facilitator to deliver training to the workforce. Dementia is one of the biggest health and care challenges we currently face and this is set to increase, therefore it is vital that care staff have the knowledge and skills to support those with this condition.
This work is a collaboration with HEE working across Yorkshire and Humber, Bradford university and Skills for Care and with support from vale of York CCG, City of York Council and North Yorkshire County Council. The successful cohort received their certificate from Kay Ford Regional Clinical Skills Advisor (HEE YH ) and Clare Mason the course trainer.
Aquafinatic Pet Therapy
We have Aquafinatic Pet Therapy come into the home every month. The residents really benefit from these visits and really enjoy the interaction with all the different Pets.
Lamb petting
Clarrie, a former employee, recently brought in her pet Lamb from her farm. Our residents loved seeing Clarrie and her lamb, Blackie, so much so that they will be visiting again in a few weeks!
