Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Thank you gifts

Residents at Mulberry Court decorated gorgeous fairy houses from miniature bird boxes as a thank you to our friend and neighbour Cheryl Greenfield-Bell.  Cheryl opened up her beautiful Fairy’s Garden to our residents when we had our Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s week and everyone wanted to show their appreciation.   Cheryl was thrilled to receive the little houses and is adding them to her already beautiful enchanted garden, a lovely link with our local community.

Trip out!

Residents at Mulberry Court enjoyed a lovely trip out in our minibus to Skelton Garden Centre.  They had chance to browse and buy what they wanted around the centre and enjoyed a lovely bite to eat and coffee in the café afterwards.  Everyone enjoyed the change of scenery.

Creative writing

A creative resident at Mulberry Court has penned a poem to recognise one of the homes nurses.  This week the home celebrated National Poetry day and whilst this year’s theme was ‘The Environment’, Resident, xXx wrote a heartfelt poem about nurse, Lizzy.  World Poetry day encourages everyone to make, experience and share poetry and the words have been heartfelt by all who have read it in the home.

Other residents put pen to paper and General Manager, Rachael said “It’s been amazing listening to our residents share their stories and recollections of days gone by and we have been delighted to read their poems as part of National Poetry Day”.

Royal Botanic Garden

Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.

The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.

Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Mulberry Court held their annual MacMillan Coffee morning to raise money for this worthy cause.  Staff and relatives donated cakes for the event and we had a very busy reception for a few hours.  We raised over £200 for the charity.

Remembering the Queen

It has been a very emotional time for everyone as we all came together as a nation to pay our respects to her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Residents and staff came together and paid their respects at our Memorial table where a book of condolence was open to everyone.
