Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Cook Off 2024

Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.

Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life.  Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

Pebble painting

We didn’t let the rain dampen our spirits and because the weather wasn’t great, we thought we do some arts and crafts and paint pebbles….

It’s harder than it looks but the residents had a good attempt at it and we absolutely love them, there was a splash of colour everywhere!

Wimbledon special

Today at Mulberry Court York we held a Wimbledon special – residents played a game of tennis against each other over our newly purchased net.

Afterwards we all enjoyed a tasty treat of strawberries and cream and a nice cup of tea.  We also had a special guest appearance by “Sue Barker”.

So much fun and laughter was a fantastic atmosphere!

Inside the Eden Project

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.

During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories.  A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.

Summer Fair

Wow what a fantastic afternoon we had her at Mulberry court care home York, for our summer fair on Saturday 22nd June we could not have asked for a sunnier afternoon.

Every-one had a great time listening to John Kellow sing for us, chat to York’s very own mayor (Margaret Wells) and her Sheriff (Ms Fiona Fitzpatrick), as well as several members of York inset bike group who also attended and spoke to residents about their machines.

We welcomed a few outside stall holders such as Avon etc as well as hosting our own plant stall, book stall, lucky dip, hook a duck and tombola.

Wonderful to see so many residents and their families enjoying the event.

Make a Wish

One of our residents Elena had her ears pierced a long time ago and one of her ears unfortunately has healed up so because the lovely Elena has recently made a wish to Mulberry to get her other ear re-done so she can wear both of her earrings, we thought we would make her dream come true. Also our supportive Resident Ambassador – Eileen also had her ears re-done as well.

So Madeline Wood from Bad Girl Beauty, came into our home and made Elena’s wish come true, thank you so much. Here at Mulberry Care home, we like to make wishes come true for our residents.
