Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Home commemorate D-Day

Here at Mulberry Court, we wanted to remember D-day as a moment in history that changed the world forever, so we wanted to mark the anniversary with dignity and respect as well as giving thanks.

So earlier in the week we made memorial of remembrance for those who wanted to could pay their respects,  then in the afternoon we welcomed Jules vintage singer to our home to entertain us with war time classics, then finished off the afternoon with a tasty ice-cream from local firm swirls.

Pet therapy

Guide dogs are more than assistance animals, they're loyal companions and trusted guides for people with a vision impairment.

Thank you Jane for bringing your lovely Black Labrador Guide Dog Venus to visit Mulberry Court Care Home - Barchester Healthcare.

It was an amazing activity session – Jane told us about her experience about having a guide dog and how it transformed her life.

And of course, residents, family and staff loved every minute of feeding Venus little treats.

Wonders of the ocean

Residents across our services enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of The Deep, an award-winning aquarium in Hull.

Our residents dived into the underwater world of some fascinating creatures such as sharks, turtles and stingrays.

It was a truly immersive and educational experience that brought the wonders of the ocean right to our screens.

Gardening Club

Here at Mulberry Court, we realise the importance of resident’s being able to continue with their hobbies and interests, so we set up a gardening club.

Bi-weekly our very own award winning gardener, Chris hosts our gardening club to help resident’s continue their love of gardening, this week we planted sunflower seeds for a competition to see who can grow the tallest one!

We like the whole home approach here at Mulberry court so embrace Chris coming to give us demonstrations, his knowledge and his time.

Happy 100th Birthday Lilian!

On Monday 13th Lillian reached her Milestone birthday, she celebrated with family in our first floor Jubilee Lounge, which had been especially decorated for the occasion.

A buffet was freshly prepared by our in house kitchen team as well as the all-important birthday cake.

Lilian had a wonderful afternoon as the champagne flowed and gifts and cards were opened.

Happy birthday Lilian from us all at Mulberry court.

Book club with The Blue House Bookshop

Last month we started a book club, this was done in partnership with “The Blue House Bookshop” of York.

On Tuesday 14th May we welcomed back Pam to talk about our favourite books and authors.

Although we all had a very varied taste of books we all share the same passion for reading and enjoyed talking about our books and reading extracts from them.

Thank – you Pam for once again giving up your time and we look forward to future book clubs.
