Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Resident leads Christmas service

Residents and staff at Mulberry Court Care Home in York enjoyed a very special Christmas Church service lead by resident, Sheila.  Sheila, a former vicar led the service as a residents counted down to Christmas.  Popular carols songs were played in the background.   After the service, Residents enjoyed a cup of tea and delicious treats prepared by the homes hospitality team.

'Tis the season to be jolly!

Barchester Mulberry Court care home, in York got in the Christmas spirit by hosting a Christmas party for the residents.

Mulberry Court’s Christmas party was in full swing with festive foods, karaoke and games, virtual carol singer performances.  Residents enjoyed a feast of festive foods prepared by the home’s hospitality team, led by Chef - Collin.

General Manager, Fiona Christie said: “We’ve had a year like no other so we wanted to really spoil our residents and give them an extra special treat.  We’ve all had such fun letting our hair down today, and it is clear that everyone really enjoyed the day.”

Mrs Hugh, a resident at Mulberry Court said: “It has been a lovely day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get in spirit. I really enjoyed the carols and pass the parcel, mulled wine, mince pies.

Home receives community gift

Residents of Mulberry Court were delighted to receive a special festive hamper sent to them by York City Church along with a carol service DVD for the residents to watch and enjoy. The residents were happy to receive the generous festive gift and have been overwhelmed by community gifts, cards and letters which they have received during these last few months.

Santa makes surprise visit

Father Christmas and his grotto has come to Mulberry Court to visit our residents especially created by the staff.  The Elf played the piano as Christmas carols were played in the background to residents delight. The residents had a wonderful time and got into the festive spirit.   Resident, Betty was pleased to show her creative side as she made a decorative table centre piece for her son.

Christmas cake competition

Throughout December, Residents have been busy counting down to Christmas with their busy life enrichment programme filled with fun-filled festive activities.

We have been busy making festive decorations to display around our home and making our Christmas cakes, starting them early so we could ‘feed’ them with brandy or sherry and leaving plenty of time for them to mature before decorating and entering into Barchester’s annual Christmas cake competition.

As we made our cakes, it was lovely to hear everyone sharing their memories of Christmases past, the traditions they enjoyed and what Christmas has meant to them.

Keeping residents connected during the colder months

Residents are overjoyed at Mulberry Court care home in York, as Barchester Healthcare has implemented a visiting suite for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones for the autumn and winter seasons in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer for those able for many months.

Balancing resident wellbeing and safety is at the forefront of Barchester Healthcare’s thinking and they understand how important it is for residents and their family and friends to be able to spend time together in the safest way possible.

There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment by Barchester Healthcare, who run Mulberry Court care home. It was welcome news for their residents and family and friends as we enter the colder season meaning catch-ups can continue to take place, instead of, or in addition to, outdoor visiting already offered for those able.
