Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Getting creative with hand-made cards

Staff and residents enjoy some time together making Christmas decorations and creating colourful hand-made Christmas cards to send to their loved ones.  With the soft sounds of Christmas music being played in the background to get everyone into the festive spirit, they used a variety of items from paper plates, coloured paper, felt and finished it off with some festive stickers and a sprinkling of glitter.  Everyone was delighted with their finished products.

Cheese afternoon a roaring success

Cheese and Wine Day at Mulberry Court was a roaring success when residents enjoyed a beautiful spread prepared by the talented kitchen team. Looks amazing!

Residents and Colleagues at the home enjoyed an afternoon of cheese and wine tasting. Residents always look forward to the themed tasting afternoons and this month was no different as residents tried all the different tastes and textures of the cheeses, along with unusual flavours of crisps which they all liked.

Residents enjoy spooky treats

Barchester’s Mulberry Court was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween party got in to full swing.

Staff and residents got in to the spirit of things with a fun filled spooktacular activities calendar before sitting back to enjoy a cup of tea with a delicious slice of home-made cake and a selection of sweet treats.

Jolly Sweet Trolley

The ‘Jolly Sweets Trolley’ goes around the home giving Mulberry Court residents the opportunity to enjoy some of their favourite sweet treats. Residents are given a choice of old fashioned sweets, sugar-free sweets, chocolates and crisps.

The residents love seeing it get rolled out with some of their choice treats, and sometimes they will request for it to go around the home more than once a week. While going around the home with the trolley, activities catch up to ensure that everyone’s firm favourites are available, and also what kind of different activities they would like to see, as well as to let them know what has been planned for the week ahead.

The mobile trolley is very popular at Mulberry Court and it's lovely to see the resident’s smiles as they see it rolling along.

Home create Harvest display

Residents and staff at Mulberry Court had a lot of fun as they worked together to create the homes fabulous Harvest Festival display.    Some expressed concern that it may be mistaken for a Halloween display and management refused to comment.  General Manager, Steve Edgar and Deputy Manager, Fiona Christie were the models for the scarecrows!

The home will be generously donating their food collection to the homes local food bank to benefit those who need it especially during the current pandemic.

Birthday surprise for Resident

Resident, Ken celebrated his birthday with a garden visit from his daughter where he was surprised by the team with a delicious home-made birthday cake and a rousing rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’

Ken was delighted with the gesture and it brought tears of happiness to his daughter.  Happy Birthday Ken!
