Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Flower Power

Residents of Mulberry Court enjoyed an afternoon of flower arranging to help decorate their home with springtime blooms. Everyone enjoyed assorting the flowers to create beautiful arrangements in various vases while having a catch-up over a cup of tea.

Intergenerational Singing Session

Back in September 2019 a group of Childminders contacted us asking if they could come and do some singing with the children they cared for and the residents on a monthly basis. We had heard about Intergenerational Activities before so we snapped their hands off as we knew it would be a huge benefit for both young and old.

Mulberry Court hosts these Intergenerational Singing Session for residents and the Childminders and children come in and run them. So far they have been a huge hit and many of our residents are asking to attend these sessions.

This particular event on the photo took place during the festive season. Everyone enjoys singing and socialising. On some of the sessions the Childminders have even brought in themed crafts do with the residents.

General Manager, Steve Edgar said: “When the group approached us we couldn’t believe our luck!  We had been considering how to promote and foster mutually beneficial intergenerational relationships for a while, and this seemed to fit the bill perfectly.  The residents, children, Childminders and Mulberry Court Team have all benefited from this collaboration – long may it continue, and a big “thank you” to Rachel, Nikki, Victoria and Faye”

Residents Enjoy Rock N Roll Afternoon

Residents from Mulberry Court enjoyed an afternoon of singing and dancing to classic hits performed by Musical Memories to celebrate the King of Rock ‘n’ Rolls birthday.

As residents put on their ‘blue suede’ dancing shoes for an afternoon of classics songs from the King of Rock N Roll performed by popular entertainer, Maggie which saw everyone singing and clapping along too!

Residents had a wonderful time from start to finish and commented on how much they enjoyed the Elvis tribute before sitting back to enjoy a slice of delicious home-made cake and refreshments. Steve Edgar, General Manager said: “I am glad that everyone enjoyed the visit and we look forward to musical memories returning again very soon.”

Live Music Performance

Residents of Mulberry Court were treated to an afternoon of musical delight as they watched a very special live musical performance by the local choir. Residents were delighted to see the choir from the local community perform a selection of festive carols as part of the homes busy social calendar. Resident, Marion took great delight in singing along as she had been a member for many years before moving to the home.

General Manager, Steve Edgar said, “Our residents had a wonderful visit to the school and sung along with the wonderful performers. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents, and this was one was one of our favourites.”

Don't Dine Alone

As part of Mulberry Court’s Don’t Dine Alone campaign they regularly open there doors to a number of people from the community to help tackle loneliness. They invited anyone who would usually dine alone to join them each month, residents also welcome their families to join them at their home to enjoy each other’s company.

Family were able to enjoy a tasty lunch in the home’s dining room where they had a chance to catch up while enjoying their food. After dinner, everyone listened to music, played some games and even tested their knowledge with a fun quiz.

Steve Edgar, General Manager said: “The day was a great success. It was a great effort from my team. They are always keen to do more as its wonderful experience for everyone”

Getting Into The Festive Spirit

Residents of Mulberry Court recently enjoyed a spot of retail therapy at nearby York Designer Outlet village to purchase a few Christmas gifts for their loved ones.

It was fun to see all the Christmas decorations, spend time browsing the shop displays and enjoy the bustling atmosphere.  With a spot of lunch and a warming cup of tea everyone was ready to head home. It was a thoroughly enjoyable outing and it certainly made everyone get into the festive spirit!
