Activites at Mulberry Court Care Home
The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles
Lead Activities Co-ordinator
Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.
I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!
I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.
Celebrating life at Mulberry Court Care Home

10-Year Long Service Award
A housekeeping Assistant at Mulberry Court in Rawcliffe, York has received a prestigious 10-Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for ten years.
Jilly now a member of the housekeeping team started at Barchester in June 2015 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.
Father's Day
We started the day here recognising all of our gentlemen, presenting each with a special Father's Day gift on behalf of us all here at Mulberry Court.
Then it was time to be entertained by popular vocalist, Nikki Humberstone, with a medley of hits including 'the locomotion'.
I'm the 'King of the swingers' from the Jungle Book and many more to our full lounge! We hope all of our gents have enjoyed their day.

Couple celebrate 70-years together!
A couple from Mulberry Court have celebrated seventy years of marriage. Norman and Anne met at a dance, and it was love at first sight! Norman was a teacher, then became a headteacher while Ann raised their two sons, Michael and David, who took their mum and dad out for a special lunch on the day before returning to Mulberry court where everyone was waiting for them with a platinum celebration card and a homemade cake with personalised topper.
Family and friends came to Mulberry Court to celebrate the couple’s special anniversary with staff and residents. The home arranged for their favourite fruit cake to be made.
Out and about in our local community
Residents enjoyed more than one trip this week – the first trip was to Beningborough Hall where we enjoyed looking around the newly installed Mediterranean gardens and admiring all the beautiful plants before heading into the café for a delicious lunch.
Next up was a quick trip to nearby Skelton Garden Centre, a popular destination with our residents. After browsing the vast selection of plants and gifts, it was time for a refreshing pit stop in their café before heading home, timing well to coincide to the delight of Mike and David the second half of the football!
Trip to Dean's Garden Centre
Some of our wonderful residents here at Mulberry Court went out in our new mini-bus today to Dean's garden centre. They all enjoyed being out and being able to see over the hedges to fields full of lambs and crops.
Once there, we had a look around the many different gift areas before heading into their café where there was much deliberating before a final choice was made for lunch, which was absolutely delicious. Afterwards, we headed outside to look at the vast variety of plants on offer before making our way to the tills with our purchases.
We decided to do a mini-sightseeing tour on the way back and stopped off to admire the beautiful York minister, and watch the start of a horse race on the Knavesmire before finally returning.

Landmark birthday celebrations
Celebrations have been in full swing at Mulberry Court as one of its residents reaches her 101st birthday in style. Lilian was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she received many warm wishes, gifts and flowers as well as cards in recognition of her landmark 101st birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by a local company called “bears cakes and Bakes”.
Before moving to Mulberry Court, Lilian spent many years living and working out in Spain where her daughter still lives. While there she made many friends, some of whom joined her for her special celebration.
The birthday girl said “I cannot believe I have reached such a great age, it’s credit to everyone who looks after me here at Mulberry Court”.
VE Day celebrations at Mulberry Court
Wow, what a truly magnificent afternoon we had here at Mulberry Court care home as we celebrate 80 years since VE Day.
A completely packed lounge of residents, their families and friends enjoyed music from the era provided by Tony & Patsy, whilst those who were unable to join the group were gifted with an ice cream from "Swirlz" of Pocklington with the help of local army cadets from St. Peters' school.
Once the music had stopped in the lounge, everyone then moved to our "street party" and enjoyed chatting with the cadets while eating their ice-creams. Thank you to everyone who helped and attended and made many new marvellous memories.

Resident Ambassador completes Race for Life
Resident Ambassador, Eileen, completes the Race for Life with granddaughter Emily and is accompanied by Rachael Moss, General Manager. Rachael and Eileen completed this year’s ‘Race for Life’ around York Racecourse to raise money for the home’s local food banks and cancer research.
Relatives and staff were at the starting line to cheer them on, as they began their fundraising endeavours.
Rachael Moss, General Manager said: “Taking part in this challenge has been a huge amount of fun and everyone at the home has been behind us all the way. It’s for such an important cause. "I’m very glad to be able to do my bit to raise further awareness and money for the charity.”
VE Day 80 Celebrations
The home was decorated in red, white and blue and residents and staff dressed up in their 1940s-inspired glad rags and enjoyed an afternoon of big band music and dancing. Residents observed the national two-minute silence and listened again to Churchill’s iconic speech accepting Germany’s surrender and an address from the Queen.
They reminisced about their memories of VE Day and watched clips of the celebrations that took place outside Buckingham Palace and all across London. In the afternoon, they were entertained with music from the era provided by “Tony & Patsy” while the local army cadets from St. Peter’s school helped deliver ice-creams to everyone from “Swirlz” ice creams of Pocklington.
