Activities at Oak Grange Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

102nd Birthday celebrations at Oak Grange

Birthday celebrations for our lovely resident Audrey who believe it or not is 102. We took advantage of the lovely weather and had a party outside in our beautiful garden,  The fabulous Sharon Wallace came to entertain us with all our favourite songs and sang Happy birthday along with all the other residents and staff. A delicious birthday cake and tasty nibbles washed down with lots of fizz was enjoyed by all and a memorable afternoon was had by everyone who attended. Audrey said she didn’t feel 102 at all and could not believe she was actually 102, I feel a little bit old but never over 100 she said. Well you are looking grand for it we say and we hope you had a marvellous day.

Double celebrations at Oak Grange

Celebrating with staff is very important to the residents of Oak Grange, we recently had a double celebration party for our bride to be and a mummy to be. Amy was off to get wed and the lovely Jenni is now on maternity leave waiting for the arrival of her beautiful daughter. Residents and staff become like family and they all wanted to wish them both well so we held a double shower with lots of presents and of course CAKE. Decorations up and some funny quiz questions for them both the afternoon was a success. We are sure when Jenni brings her daughter into see us there will be a queue for having cuddles. Amy you looked beautiful on your wedding day and we wish you all the best for the future.

The Fireflies Choir

The fireflies are a community based female choir with over 50 members from Cheshire, Wirral and north wales. They sing a varied repertoire of music, including jazz, traditional and acapella. We were very lucky that they came and sang for us here at oak grange and they were fabulous. The residents had a wonderful morning listening to all their lively singing and they sang a special song for one of our residents who is nursed in bed, all 24 ladies went in his room and sang one of his all-time favourite songs, it was magical. We hope they will be back very soon to join us at our summer garden party.

200 Years of Cadburys

During this year’s Dementia Action Week, our residents had the opportunity to delve into Cadbury incredible 200-year history and take a trip down memory lane to reminisce on some of the nation’s most loved chocolate. A lovely afternoon full of memories and interesting conversations of our favourite chocolate and sweets from childhood. Along with some delicious chocolate from Cadburys we all had a great afternoon.

It’s National Scrabble Day!

The home was in high spirits as we celebrated the day in style with a brilliant game of scrabble. Residents are very competitive and challenged a few words that they didn’t recognise so out came the scrabble dictionary to ensure there was no cheating going on. Scrabble was invented in   1938 by an American architect, who finding himself out of work invented the board game to keep himself busy, little did he know how iconic his game would become. In 2013 Nigel Richards became the first ever 5 times champion  of the national scrabble competition winning over ten thousand pounds.

The day finished off with a Scrabble quiz and delicious afternoon treats, which brought smiles and laughter into the home.

Many of the residents take pleasure in playing scrabble and find it relaxing, they also enjoy making new friends along the way.

Afternoon Tea on the Titanic

Remembering the fateful Titanic which sailed from Southampton on the 10th April we held our own version of Afternoon tea in Palm Court. Beautifully laid tables with china crockery and gold menus along with waitress service and perfectly made Tea and Scones. Our talented chefs served up delicious homemade pastries, scones and delicate cucumber sandwiches. The very talented Rhianwen Pugh came with her beautiful gold harp to play us some hauntingly memorable music to create a realistic bygone era of decadence. Sharing some interesting facts about the Titanic and photos , along with some footage of the actual titanic gave us an insight into how luxurious the ship was, only to end up at the bottom of the sea with all those lost lives. A truly wonderful afternoon for residents and families that joined us.
