Activities at Brookfield Care Home
Our Activities coordinator dedicates her time on getting feedback from our residents of what they like to do. We have introduced paper mornings which involves group discussions and an active mind, and we also have a variety of entertainers that come in on a weekly basis. We hold a residents quiz once a week as it is one of our more popular activities, we now call it the Big Quiz due to its popularity.
It is important that we involve the community and family in many of our activities. We have the local rugby club heritage centre coming in once a week to do Bocci (indoor bowls) and seated exercise. We also hold cheese and wine evenings for family and residents which are very popular. Here at Brookfield we pride ourselves on the fabulous bond our activity coordinator has with all our residents as they are as happy to see her each morning as she is to see her friends.

Sandra Currie - The Lady with the big hat!
Sandra Currie aka the lady with the big hat , has become a firm favourite with residents at Brookfield.
Residents sang and danced along to old time favourites, Waltzing Matilda, Daisy Daisy and many more and as always Sandra didn't only bring the songs but many smiles too After the show it was like a red carpet event with everyone wanting a photo with the star of the event.

River Cafe
We have recently visited the very welcoming River Cafe in Warrington, this is a Community Cafe run by members of the Life Church.
Barbara, Betty & Margaret enjoyed a hot drink and some cake, whilst chatting to other cafe users. The ladies all agreed it was a lovely morning and are looking forward to visiting again very soon.
World Food Day
Brookfield residents learnt about the background of World Food Day and discussed some of the issues that the day was addressing, theses discussion included reminiscence from their own experiences of rationing during the war years.
Our ladies and gents them sampled some snacks from around the world, one of the favourites were the Japanese Prawn Crackers.
Rising to the Sporting Challenge
Our residents enjoy their regular exercises, so we thought we'd try something a little different and have a session with Rise Activities.
Rise aims to help people to get active, have fun and improve their wellbeing and fitness through our unique ‘adapted sports’ programme, which enables people to experience the joy of games while playing and competing together.
Rise’s programmes keep residents’ bodies and minds active whilst enabling people to reminisce, compete and socialise and, of course, have fun, activities are adapted to suit the needs of all residents.
Residents took part in a 'Sports Morning' with beanbag tossing and balloon based games, encouraging teamwork and just a little competitive spirit.
Moon Festival Celebrations
This month saw a Super Moon in our skies , this marks an important festival in Chinese Culture, The Moon Festival also known as The Mid Autumn Festival.
The festival was a time to enjoy the successful reaping of rice and wheat with food offerings made in honour of the moon. Today, it is still an occasion for outdoor reunions among friends and relatives to eat mooncakes and watch the Moon, a symbol of harmony and unity.
Residents watched a video all about the festival and its traditions then made decorations and lanterns to place around the home.
A Classical Treat
We like to offer a variety of musical entertainment at Brookfield, we were delighted to welcome Crox Duo for their Brookfield debut earlier this week. Sarah & Martin are both classically trained instrumentalists and filled our lounge with wonderful music from a multitude of instruments. There were many familiar songs for residents to enjoy, Moon River, Raindrops Keep Falling on Head along with TV themes that they recognised, Emmerdale and Last of The Summer Wine.
This was very different to a singer and residents really enjoyed the afternoon, Eliza said 'It’s just like listening to the radio'

1,2,3,4,5 – Once I Caught A fish Alive…
When Terry was asking how the fish in our pond were, who better than to take him out to see for himself, than Jimmy our Maintenance Manager.
They had a good chat about how the fish were growing and the quality of the water in the pond and how the fish seemed very content. Then came the job of counting them..... not an easy task but the number decided on was 42!!!!

Making the Connection
We have discovered that the residents enjoy some friendly competition, dominoes has always been a firm favourite. Residents were introduced to the strategy game Connect 4, on the giant frame and thoroughly enjoyed several rounds.
Betty and Eric were particularly keen and no matter how hard Eric tried to be one step ahead it was Betty’s lucky red tokens which gave her the win.

Joe Brings the Party to Brookfield
Our ladies and gents had an afternoon filled with music & laughter as they welcomed Joe Ashton, or was it Elvis, you’re never quite sure with Joe's many costume changes to suit the song, for his Brookfield debut!
Joe entertained residents with his unique prop filled show, residents were delighted as he took on the persona to match the song, keeping residents, singing, smiling, clapping, dancing, all joining in with the party feel that Joe brought with him.
