Activities at Cheshire Grange Care Home

The activities team are constantly striving to meet the varied needs of everyone who lives in our home, offering a wide range of group and individual social events. There are regular visits from entertainers, along with craft activities, baking, games & puzzle days and pampering sessions, which fill the week. However, we can always find time for outings and just spending that little bit of special time with residents who enjoy the peace and quiet. We aim to bring the activities to the individual, whilst making it a whole home experience.

Life at Cheshire Grange Care Home

Dr Tim Howard discusses book

Residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Dr Tim Howard, 4th generation GP, whose whole life has been about patient care, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his novel ‘Let’s Kill All The Lawyers’.

The novel is a medical fiction thriller that explores the impact of life and death events, mistakes and forgiveness, and the impact of law and justice on the day- to-day lives of ordinary people doing their best in difficult circumstances.

Residents had the chance to ask their own questions once the discussion was over and a great time was had by all.

Just passing through

Our residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Daniel Snowman, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Just Passing Through’.

Author of over a dozen books, Daniel Snowman’s long and active life has led him to interact in countless ways with the wider world and with some of its most famous inhabitants. His memoir evokes these experiences via a series of vivid literary vignettes.

Our residents found the talk very intriguing and informative, and were happy to learn more about Daniel’s experiences around the world.  A great time was had by all.

Virtual event with vocal coach

Our homes had a fantastic time with vocal coach Mark De-Lisser as he led an amazing virtual singing session for our residents to enjoy.

Our residents were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I’m a Believer’ by The Monkees.

There were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.

Jubilee Celebrations

It’s not every day that a reigning monarch gets to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee and with many of our residents remembering the Coronation there was a lot to celebrate. The weeks leading up to the big day were filled with art and craft projects, making hats, paining pebbles, portraits of the Queen along with lots of reminiscence using magazines from the day. The scene was set and excitement was tangible for our celebratory tea party. The hospitality team, activities and carers had worked together to present tables laden with goodies from paste sandwiches to banana bread, salmon mousse vol au vents to scones and cream, sausage rolls to salads, residents and families thought it was a marvellous spread. The day was topped off by a visit from Her Majesty herself (well, we think it was The Queen) residents thanked her for taking the time to visit them. All agreed it was was a very Happy & Glorious Day!

Morning Worship

Cheshire Grange residents welcomed Gill and Derek from local parish church St Marys, to conduct a Communion Service. Having a regular church service is one of the many ways that residents can engage with activities that were important to them when living at home. St Marys is an Anglican Church, we also have a Catholic Priest who can visit us when requested and strong links with other faiths within the community. The ladies and gents attending the service enjoyed the reading and the explanation given found peace in the prayers and lifted their voices for the hymns. After the service Gill and Derek stayed to chat with the ladies and gents which was very much appreciated. We look forward to welcoming the warm hearted people from St Marys Church for our next service.

National Trust talk

Our homes had a fantastic time joining National Trust Talks Service team at Cliveden House for an inspirational talk on Nancy Astor – the first woman to take a seat in the House of Commons.

Our residents had the opportunity to learn more about the fascinating life of Nancy and her political career. As the first women MP, she experienced both attention and scandal throughout her life, which led to many triumphs and numerous disasters.  The talk was truly enjoyed by all.
