Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

Residents Meeting

Here at Glenroyd Care Home, we value the feedback from our residents to ensure their needs are being met and to take on board any new ideas and thoughts.

In the afternoon we held our residents meeting giving our knowledge to the residents about life at our home, any changes that may or may not be happening and activities or events that we have planned.

Our residents get to review the last meeting, chat with all our heads of departments and talk about each department and any changes that may be implemented. It is a good opportunity to communicate any ideas or concerns in the meeting.

Burn's Afternoon with Live Music

We celebrated the birthday of Robert Burns, a renowned Scottish writer, in style.

The lovely Marianne was our entertainer for this special occasion, and had us all singing and dancing throughout the afternoon.

Residents enjoyed learning about Burns and Scottish culture through creation of their own Burns Night pamphlets, and enjoyed listening to traditional Scottish music along with a selection of delicious Scottish food.

A Farewel Party

Today we organised a goodbye party for Bridget and Arthur who are leaving Glenroyd to another Barchester home where they will be able to see their family more often.

We chatted the afternoon away about the memories we shared with our lovely residents Arthur and Bridget. This married couple has brought so much joy to our life and we are more than grateful to be a part of their lifetime chapter.

Dear Bridget and Arthur,
When you arrived to the Glenroyd in June 2021, we wanted to make you feel very welcome, comfortable and happy. We tried our best to make you feel like home. Knowing that your beloved son lives far away, we kept on trying to fulfil this hole that the distance has brought to your life.

We celebrated every moment with other residents and the staff. We have spent countless hours in our beautiful garden, listening to the music or having a sloppy ice cream that would always end up all over Bridget’s top. And of course Arthur would always wipe it off gently, as that’s what gents do. We laughed, we sang and we shared our stories with each other. We celebrated our birthdays and many other occasions together. We created a history that will stay with us forever.

We would like to thank you for every moment we have shared together. Thank you for every conversation we have had, every smile, every pamper session and every haircut.

It was an honour and a privilege to look after you both. You are a living proof that true love exists. We are deeply sorry to see you go. You will always be a part of our family, the Glenroyd Family.

We wish you nothing, but the best for whatever the future brings to your life. Good luck in your new home!

Best wishes,

The Glenroyd Team.

Virtual event with Royal Parks

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Magic moments of Christmas Joy

The 25th of December was a very special day for all of us at Glenroyd. We cherished every moment of being able to celebrate Christmas with our dearest residents, families and friends. It felt very special this time as due to the COVID restrictions last year we weren’t able to fully celebrate the festive season.

In the morning Santa and his elf made a surprise appearance and delivered presents to our residents. There was plenty of laughter and Ho Ho Ho shout outs. Residents were delighted opening the presents and taking photos with Santa.

And… the most delicious turkey lunch arrived on the table. Our catering team worked extremely hard to fulfil everyone’s expectations. Residents pulled the crackers, raised a glass and enjoyed the festive lunch, which Irene, one of our residents, said was "absolutely sumptuous"!

In the afternoon we had a Christmas Party with live music entertainer Marianne. Residents enjoyed singing along and dancing to Christmas songs. And of course, our residents celebrated in style by having cocktails, wine, gin and tonic and festive refreshments.

Glenroyd was filled with love and Christmas joy, and we couldn’t achieve that without our dearest residents, relatives and the lovely staff who work extremely hard. Thank you, to each and every one of you for making it so magical!

Christmas Carols from local school children

Saturday, the 17th of December was an amazing afternoon of song. We had the children from The Woodhouse Academy of Theatre Arts come to our home and perform some Christmas Carols. All of our residents and their families were singing along to the various carols and gave everyone a round of applause. The children singing warmed everyone’s hearts and we would like to thank both the teachers for their hard work and the children for their beautiful singing.
