Food at Glenroyd Care Home
In our kitchen here at Glenroyd our hardworking team makes sure the residents are served the food they love and to a high standard. Special diets or requirements are met following individual assessment and working closely with the care staff team. It is important to us that the residents are served the food they enjoy and that's why we listen to them to create a menu that suits all tastes. We also offer finger food and snacks throughout the day and cakes or biscuits for those with a sweet tooth. To get a flavour of our menus, please see the examples below.
Ella Tomlinson
Hello, my name is Ella, and I have the privilege of being the Head Chef here at Glenroyd. I take great pride in preparing high-quality food, and there's nothing that brings me more joy than seeing our residents savour the dishes that my team and I create.
Our Hospitality team and I are wholeheartedly dedicated to providing our residents with seasonal home-cooked menus that offer a wide range of choices while prioritising nutrition and quality. We make sure to cater to specific individual dietary needs and all appetites, ensuring that everyone can look forward to exciting and satisfying meals.
The food we produce holds immense importance for our residents, which is why it's absolutely imperative for us to continuously seek their feedback and consistently meet the nutritional needs of each and every resident who chooses to call Glenroyd their home.
With 15 years of experience in the care sector I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to my role. My passion for baking even led me to run a successful cupcake business in the past. I can honestly say that I love the atmosphere and ethos here at Glenroyd, and I'm truly grateful to be a part of this wonderful community.
Dietary requirements
For residents who have difficulties swallowing, we modify the menu of the day so that the dishes are more palatable for them. To support our chefs in producing these dishes, our hospitality team and our Chef Academy organise theory and practical workshops. The chefs work with the chef trainer to prepare tasty, modified meals safely and according to IDDSI frame work. This encourages residents to eat and enjoy their food. All our chefs have been trained in IDDSI food descriptors.
Attracting top chefs
Our chefs are recruited on the basis of an interview with the regional hospitality support team and the manager of the home. Selection also involves a practical element, where potential chefs are asked to cook for and meet a panel of people living in the home. Chefs take their job extremely seriously and the annual Barchester Chef Competition sees our chefs battle it out in regional heats and then at a national final for the accolade of 'Barchester's Chef of the Year'.
