Activities at Kenwyn Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Our recent trip to Falmouth Art Gallery was a truly inspiring experience. Residents were captivated by the variety of artistic styles and the different mediums used throughout the collection. There was something to spark everyone’s imagination.
Art has a unique way of bringing people together, encouraging conversation, and evoking cherished memories. It was a wonderful day filled with creativity, curiosity, and plenty of inspiration!

A Theatre Treat

Menopause Awareness Talk
We welcomed the community and our residents' families for an insightful Menopause Awareness Event. Dr Johanneke led a thoughtful discussion, shedding light on an important topic in an open and engaging way.
The evening sparked great conversations, with plenty of questions and shared experiences. A big thank you to Dr Johanneke and everyone who came along—it was a truly worthwhile event.

Trip To The Garden Centre
Our trip to Chacewater Garden Centre was a great day out. Residents enjoyed a relaxed tea and coffee while browsing the plants and picking up compost for our gardening club.
There were plenty of discussions about what to plant next and plans taking shape for spring. A simple but enjoyable way to spend the day.
Musical Dementia Cafe
Our Dementia Café was alive with music, singing, and laughter! Residents and families enjoyed a joyful session with musician Melanie Garside, filling the room with dance and song.
The uplifting atmosphere sparked beautiful moments of connection, as familiar tunes brought back cherished memories. A huge thank you to Melanie and everyone who joined us—it was a truly special day!

Truro School Choir Visit
This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Truro School Choir into our home. Their stunning Christmas carols brought festive cheer and filled our home with joy.
The residents thoroughly enjoyed the performance, and it sparked wonderful conversations afterwards as they reminisced about their own school days and shared stories of college life.
A heartfelt thank you to the talented students and staff of Truro School for taking the time to visit us and spread such seasonal joy—it was a truly memorable day for everyone.

Jumping Out!
This week, we were treated to a wonderful afternoon of music and fun with the awesome Jumping Out Duo! Their lively performance had our residents tapping their feet, clapping along, and singing to some familiar tunes. It was a joyful experience that brought everyone together, filling the room with smiles, laughter, and plenty of rhythm. A big thank you to Jumping Out Duo for brightening our day and creating such wonderful memories!

Dementia Talk
We were delighted to welcome National Dementia expert Leon Smith to Kenwyn. His engaging and informative talk created a relaxed space for families and the community to ask questions and gain practical advice, fostering a deeper understanding of dementia. Attendees appreciated Leon’s approachable style, which made complex topics easier to grasp, and many left feeling more confident about supporting loved ones living with dementia.

The Power Of Music
Music is a cherished part of life in our home, and we recently enjoyed a visit from local musician Melanie Garside, who filled our day with beautiful melodies.
Our residents were thrilled to tap, clap, sing, and play along, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere. These musical moments are more than just entertainment – they uplift spirits, promote wellbeing, and foster a sense of togetherness within our community.
Music has the power to connect us, and experiences like this enrich daily life, making our home a special place to be.
Painting at Kenwyn: Boosting Energy, Creativity, and Mental Wellbeing for Our Residents
Activities in all forms can boost energy levels which are a natural mood booster.
And Painting is SO impressive!
It can improve mood and mental health by stimulating creativity and focusing attention, which can lower anxiety and release emotions.
Our residents enjoyed their time in the creative space that Kenwyn is able to provide.
Kenwyn's Lumo-Themed Dementia Café
Our Community Dementia Cafes always have a different theme, but one thing they all have in common is FUN and plenty of it.
This month we invited you to a Lumo party!
The glow in the dark party was a different idea for our cafe, but it brought fun and laughter and more importantly, it brought people together.
There were games and activities for everybody to be involved with, along with delicious refreshments.
Watch this space for details of Kenwyn’s next Dementia Support cafe.
Please remember, all are welcome and bring along anyone who may enjoy or benefit from the cafe.
Heartfelt Reading Session Brings Joy and Camaraderie to Our Community
One of our popular activities is our reading sessions, which are held alongside our book and poetry clubs.
We all sit together and our residents read some of their favourite scripts from novels to newspapers, and then also read extracts to each other.
One of our residents read aloud a touching poem about growing older and we enjoyed the camaraderie that the activity brought us all.
Reading can have a positive impact on general wellbeing for the elderly, bringing enjoyment and escapism.
Sharing books is a great way to bring people together and rereading favourites can bring back memories of happy times, friends, family and even holidays.
