Activities at Kenwyn Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Jools Wyngaard
South African born Jools joined the team here at Kenwyn in March 2023 as Activities Coordinator after she decided to try life in the UK with her partner.
Jools' background is in Fundraising and Digital Marketing however after witnessing her Grandmother live with Dementia has since always wanted to work more closely with the aged and vulnerable and enrich the lives of residents.
In her spare time Jools loves her animals and misses her cats who are with her family in South Africa.

National Guide Dog Day
We have had a busy week of visits at Kenwyn, with some very special guests.
Here you can see a photo of George. George is a retired Guide Dog.
He came to Kenwyn to meet our residents on National Guide Dog Day.
Our residents loved him and as you can see here, the feeling was mutual.
Thank you to Guide Dogs UK for all you do and for arranging this lovely visit.
Kenwyn's new Book club
Today we would like to say a big thank you to the wonderfully helpful Trudy at Newquay Library & Information Service and Information Service.
With Trudy's experience, knowledge and advice, we have set up our brand new book club.
Reading a good book is perfect for mental and cognitive stimulation to keep the brain stay active and engaged.
Here at Kenwyn we recognise the value of reading for our residents - particularly reading in groups.
It is also proven to be effective in helping people with dementia to feel happier and more content.
Poetry for reading groups – particularly for people living with dementia can be a huge benefit. It has found that poetry engages emotions and can trigger memory.
International Firefighters Day

Kenwyn's Nurses save the life of a member of the public
Five weeks ago a gent was driving near to Kenwyn care home in Truro and started to experience severe chest pains. That gent was Neil.
He had the presence of mind after seeing Kenwyn’s sign (and realising he couldn’t get to hospital quickly enough) to make a decision that literally changed his life.
He pulled into our car park (parking perfectly!) and made his way in a huge amount of pain to reception.
Two of Kenwyn’s nurses were immediately on hand to assist, Adelina and Sadie.
Neil was sadly in the middle of a significant Heart Attack.
He later spent quite some time in hospital where his consultants said that the swift actions of the Nurses in Kenwyn ‘categorically saved his life.’
We have stayed in contact with Julie, Neil’s wife, tracking his progress.
Today, Neil and his wife Julie returned to Kenwyn - in much happier circumstances - to thank our two incredible nurses.
What a fantastic outcome - We couldn’t be prouder.
Time to pick a winner!
Today was the day that we collected our Easter colouring cards from 4 of Daisy Fays Nursery Nurseries.
Such lovely staff and children to have linked up with, we couldn’t have wished to meet a better bunch:

With sparkle and bright colours, the cards will make a lovely treat from the children to our residents for Easter.
Back at Kenwyn, it was time to begin the enormously difficult task of picking a winner from each Nursery – although, as you can see, the effort from the children was fantastic.
To help us judge, we enlisted Rhona who is one of our much loved residents. Eventually, we were ready to decide the winners, which you are able to see – the four standing up.

An Easter Bunny Hunt in Kenwyn's Garden's with local school children
Our magic eggs are hidden, our clues in place, our Easter Eggs are ready, our Easter Bunny’s have arrived, and we are Easter Egg Hunt ready here in Kenwyn’s gardens!
We are all very excited to welcome a class of 32 year 4 children from St Mary’s C of E school this morning.
