Activities at Lethen Park Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Amanda McCarthy

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends

Residents go apple picking

Residents at Lethen Park care home in Portlethen recently pick apples from their Orchard trees for their very own apple-themed puddings.

After the apple picking, all of the participants returned to the home where they peeled the apples for the chef, and chefs in the kitchen got busy baking the apples in a delicious apple pie, which was enjoyed by all.

General Manger at Lethen Park care home, said: “One of our favourite days in autumn is apple picking in our very own Orchard, not only do the residents get a lovely day in the garden but we get to eat delicious pie.

Pet therapy with Toby

To mark Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, staff and residents at Barchester’s Lethen Park care home in Portlethen were treated to a visit from Toby the beautiful therapy pet. Animals have a wonderful calming effect and the residents love to stroke them, talk to them and play with them.

The home was visited by Toby the Jack Russell, who caused a great deal of excitement.  All of the residents enjoyed the visit, they petted and fed the dog who seemed to appreciate meeting new friends. His favourite moment was being pushed around in the silver cross pram and falling asleep to relaxing movements.

“Toby had a wonderful afternoon!  I don’t think he has ever had so much attention!  It was lovely to see the residents getting so much pleasure from the visit, I think it is fair to say Toby has a new fan club!”

Inside Mayfair

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.

A trip to the Hairdresser

Jessie had a beautiful day attending the hairdressers. Jessie was able to converse with Pauline and enjoy a nice cup of tea when having her hair done.

Jessie was so happy!

Norma

Norma has enjoyed helping Brenda with house keeping. Norma supported with putting fresh towels in all the residents rooms. Norma had lots of fun and felt a great sense of purpose

Inside Wall's icecream

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event in celebration on National Ice Cream Day. Wall’s team took us on a great journey through history, sharing fascinating details about the brand since its launch in 1922. We learned about major innovations such as the introduction of Mr Whippy, Cornetto, Viennetta, Twister, and Carte d'Or.

Residents were treated to a singalong to Cornetto classic ads, an interactive quiz about fun Wall’s facts and best-of-all, an ice-cream tasting session. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our ice-cream lovers.
