Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes
Lead Activities Co-ordinator
Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.
I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.
I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.
Celebrating life at Meadowbeck Care Home

Home celebrate senior health and fitness day
Residents participated in a variety of activities throughout the day designed for a wide range of physical abilities, including a local morning walk, and a fun afternoon of movement to music with lots of dancing with rainbow sticks and colourful scarves in our garden, with the help of refreshing fruit kebabs and infused lime and mint water helper everyone stay cool in the sunshine.
Created to inspire senior-friendly physical activity, the national day was launched to increase awareness of the importance of remaining active to maintain strong, healthy joints and muscles, and to encourage diet and lifestyle changes for an overall improvement to wellbeing, and illness prevention.
Residents spent the day trying out taster sessions for a whole host of different activities, there were group classes such as walking, movement to music, arm chair exercises, and dance classes on offer.
Tractor visit
Our residents were delighted to meet Shaun. They thought it was fun when he rolled up in his tractor in our car park to visit us.
Everyone was excited about getting up close to his John Deer 6610 tractor, getting to ask questions and learn more about it.
The visit also brought back fond memories for some who had driven tractors in the past. Not only did they get to meet Shaun, but they had a visit with Hilary and Ted, our therapy dog also.
Stroll around the village
A couple of our gents had a lovely walk around the village yesterday, making the most of the beautiful sunshine.
It doesn’t get much better seeing the spring flowers in bloom, and stopping by the pond seeing the swans and ducks always makes it more peaceful. We even had a nice chat with some friendly locals.
It's moments like these that really do lift our mood.
Watching the wildlife in the garden
Residents have enjoyed taking part in bird-themed crafts as part of the homes ongoing garden birdwatch after participating in the RSPBs Big Bird Garden watch earlier in the year.
Residents have been making fat balls for their local feathered friends as well as crafting bird feeders out of cardboard tubes. They spent time enjoying the beauty of nature and watching as the birds enjoyed their snacks out in the garden.
One Resident commented: “I like to see and feed the birds. Aren’t they beautiful?”
British Pie Week
Throughout one of the most delicious weeks of the year, as well as our talented chefs preparing various meat pies, residents got involved in a themed baking session making their favourite apple and blackberry pies, and tasty apple strudel.
We had a fabulous afternoon, and it was lovely to have family members stay and roll up their sleeves to join in the fun.
International Nurse's Day
We celebrated International Nurses Day. We are proud to celebrate all our nursing team here at Meadowbeck for all their wonderful care and dedication they have given to our residents over the years.
To show our appreciation to all our nurses, we gathered together for sweet treats and refreshments as we presented them with a certificate and a small gift.
Not forgetting our wonderful retired nurses, Barbara and Janet, who were delighted with their certificates.

World Cocktail Day
World Cocktail Day is a global celebration of cocktails, the date marks the publication of the first recorded definition of a cocktail on May 13 in 1806 as a ‘stimulating liquor, composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water and bitters’. World Cocktail Day invites everyone to try something new, and perhaps a little exotic, this special occasion is celebrated by cocktail lovers worldwide.
Whether you’re a tequila fan, a whisky lover, a gin aficionado or you just like to mix it up and try something new, World Cocktail Day has something for everyone. It was certainly a day of fun-filled tastings for the staff and residents at Meadowbeck.
Musical Moments
Residents were delighted to welcome back the wonderful Maggie for our monthly Musical Moments session. Everyone had a great time getting involved singing and moving to the music, singing in the rain with fun-themed props and musical instruments.
Everyone had lots of fun forever blowing bubbles. There were smiles of joy all around. After the group session, Tina and Maggie went around with her ukulele, visiting residents in their rooms for a sing-along together.
Walk in the village
We were pleased to see the spring sunshine, and so we enjoyed a walk to the village pond. It was lovely to see the spring blooms and daffodils, as well as seeing new life with the blossoms appearing on the trees.
Residents enjoyed sitting and relaxing watching the swans and ducks, listening to the sound of the birds chattering away to each other.
We are so lucky to have such a lovely spot on our doorstep.

St Patrick's Day
Residents, families and staff celebrated all things Irish for St Patrick’s Day this week. The home was decorated with shamrocks and everyone dressed in hats and fun glasses to mark the day.
Held on March 17th, Saint Patrick's Day actually observes the death of St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, but the day has come to be a huge celebration of Irish heritage and culture.
Staff and residents marked the day by hanging shamrock decorations and banners, and enjoyed an afternoon of live entertainment with the talented Richard, playing a wide range of songs for everyone to sing along to with some Irish dancing. with Guinness a plenty and Irish Whiskey.
We love a little baking!
Carol said she would like to make her speciality cheese scones, so we gathered the ingredients together for Carol to roll up her sleeves and get her hands straight into the mixing bowl. She had the butter crumbling between her fingers, and the flour-dusted on the table ready to roll out her mixture.
They smelt absolutely delicious fresh out of the oven, with the smell of toasted cheese and buttery baked dough hard for everyone to resist.
Carol says nothing gives her greater pleasure than seeing others enjoy her baked treats.
Home celebrate 81st anniversary of VE Day
We marked the 81st anniversary of Victory in Europe Day in style by throwing a 1940s afternoon tea party to remember. The home was decorated in red, white and blue and residents and staff dressed up in their 1940s-inspired glad rags and enjoyed an afternoon of live music and dancing with Nikki Humberstone singing a melody of war time classics.
Head chef whipped up a delicious selection of sandwiches, cakes and pastries for the occasion, all washed down with pots of tea.
A Day at the races for Aintree Ladies Day
We had a wonderful afternoon with lots of glamour as our residents dressed to impress in beautiful outfits, and the ladies in their fabulous hats and fascinators.
With the horse racing on the TV in the background, lots of laughter and smiles were shared as the prosecco was flowing. It was wonderful to hear the stories of the occasions they last had a chance to wear the fancy hats.
Movement to music
The residents enjoyed keeping fit with Mark from U-Sit exercise in our exercise to the music session.
Not only are these classes good for improving our residents' mobility, balance and strength, but a great way to boost confidence also.
We finished off with a little fun ball skills game to help our co-ordination.
Mum's the word
Residents celebrated Mother’s Day with visits and video calls from family members near and far. The home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and bunting for the occasion.
Staff arranged a special afternoon tea party with a selection of delicious homemade cupcakes and sweet delights. and live entertainment with the wonderful Nikki Humberstone, and beautifully hand knitted gifts for all the ladies and staff.
