Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Dementia Action Week Winchester

Dementia Action Week Winchester

A busy week with all of our team out and about during Dementia Action week in Winchester. From supporting community groups, to visiting the stalls and stands offering advice and support at the Royal County hospital, as well as hosting a variety of welcoming events in the home. Concluding the week, our Home Services Advisor Laura had a great morning raising awareness about Dementia Action Week  (19-25 May) at Winchester Town Centre alongside our colleagues from Home Instead Central Hampshire and Flowerdown Nursing Care Home.
It was a pleasure to meet the new Mayor of Winchester Councillor Jamie Scott. Winchester City Council, we're looking forward to welcoming to our home very soon.
We were also joined by a variety of local care home providers, it was good to see the team work together and offering support for many.
Spring time in the gardens

Spring time in the gardens

Our residents have enjoyed the better weather this week, making the most of the gardens and potting planters full of colour. Enjoying coffee and conversation outside in the lovely fresh air, and the opportunity to get out for a walk too. All of these daily routines are important to enrich lives at our home.

We’ve had another fantastic week here at Shawford Springs!

We spent a ‘pawsome’ morning with our therapy dog Alba, visited the ‘Beauty of the Earth’ exhibition at the Arc in Winchester, enjoyed an outing to Haskins Garden Centre in Southampton, had a fabulous time at our love themed cocktail & jazz event with saxophonist Hannah & got crafty with clay. We also wished our wonderful Anne a very Happy Birthday!

We’ve enjoyed outings to Garsons Garden Centre & the tea room at New Forest Lavender
Within the home, we've enjoyed so much throughout both communities across the week; we put on our dancing shoes & danced the afternoon away at our ‘flower power’ themed mini-disco. Our esteemed judging panel, our Head Chef and keen gardener Jon along with our Head of Maintanence Ben who manages our wonderful gardens came together to pick the gold medal winners for our garden competition. And our gardening club have been busy making our raised beds & borders look fabulous

3rd Birthday Celebrations

Wow, what a fantastic time we had celebrating three wonderful years of providing care & support at Shawford Springs!
Singer Caryn got us all in the party spirit with a brilliant upbeat set & the drinks were flowing.🥂 We were also thrilled to welcome back the Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Sudhakar Achwal, who joined in with the dancing & took the time to chat to everyone.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to all our residents, staff, families & visitors for celebrating with us today. Also a special thanks to singer Caryn for the wonderful music and our hairdresser Edana for lending a hand. Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to Cllr Sudhakar Achwal & his wife for taking time out of their busy schedule to visit us again.
Days out together

Days out together

February may have brought non stop rain, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying two lovely outings on our minibus. ☺️
On  a recent Tuesday morning we visited the Gosport Museum & Gallery, where we enjoyed their fascinating new exhibition which explores colour in the world around us.
Then on Wednesday we took a nostalgic trip back in time to the 1940’s with a visit to the 19fourteas tea room in Havant. The quirky cafe is themed entirely around the 40’s with ration book style menus, vintage tableware & furnishings from the wartime era. It made the perfect setting for sharing childhood memories over a delicious cuppa and slice of cake!
Big garden bird watch

Big garden bird watch

We enjoyed a fascinating live virtual talk about British Garden Birds and the Big Garden Bird Watch in our cinema room.

The talk was presented by Rob from the Gwent Wildlife Trust & covered lots of fascinating facts about some of our most common garden birds along with information about the RSPB’s forthcoming annual garden bird watch event, which residents will be taking part in next week.

Our head of maintenance decided to plant shrubs and flowers that will benefit wildlife throughout the year and attract insects that birds like to eat. Also, our residents have enjoyed trips to local garden centres, to shop for supplies ready for the birdwatch.
