Activities at Sherwood Court Care Home

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Sherwood Court celebrated Easter with a whole host of different activities including a fascinating delivery of soon-to-be born chicks from Living egg, an Easter Egg Hunt and attending a church service.

Residents at Sherwood Court enjoyed an eggs-tensive range of Easter activities, from watching the eggs hatch to egg painting, from attending a church service to a fantastic egg hunt.  Residents also tucked in to a delicious Easter meal of roast lamb followed by Easter cake prepared by the home’s talented head chef.

Cath, resident at Sherwood Court said: “It has been so lovely to spend time with our families this Easter, though like every Easter, I think I’ve eaten too much chocolate! It was so wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort. I really enjoyed watching the chicks hatching.

Here at Sherwood Court it is so important to take in to consideration all the needs of the residents and this time it is spiritual, friendship, being involved, socialisation, being heard and we are so lucky to have a church close by North Preston Evangelical church that opens their arms to us every week, with homemade cake and fresh coffee and always a friendly face to bring joy to the day with a pray hymn and reading for us all to enjoy this is open to anyone family and friends.

Residents and family members have said they are overwhelmed by the warmth of the church and the people that make it happen Barbara and her daughter enjoy this most weeks, we would like to say thanks to Fred and his team also to his wife that makes the cakes every week

Life at Sherwood court is full of fun and laughter. We have regular entertainers visit the home but this time we had discussed with the residents to  try a new group called the golden oldies and what a fantastic performance it was with so many costume changes and dances the residents really enjoyed the show it was absolutely amazing .

Family members and staff thoroughly enjoyed each performance which was a variety from belly dancing, opera singing. Residents have already asked for the show to come back and this has been booked for June. We cannot wait.

Getting out and about for the residents is so very important, out shopping or just to post a letter in the box. Alan enjoyed a walk with staff in the woods to the post box looking at the birds then counting cars. Most of all, he was over the moon to have helped others to do their job. He said it was an achievement and felt happy the rest of the day to have helped others. We had a cup of tea back at Sherwood and a chat with others to finish our day.

Mothering Sunday is a special day for lots of are ladies and most went out with family or family visited with flowers and chocolate so mother’s day was celebrated on Monday at the home Sherwood court with a tea party for everyone but most of all for those that don’t have anyone.

Abi are wonderful piano player played all afternoon beautifully with warm loving songs like the spice girls mum Muma I love you. The kitchen made a wonderful homemade cakes for all a lovely surprise for all diets, Residents said it was a heart-warming afternoon.

Ribbleton Avenue junior Methodist primary school have made all the lady’s individual hampers for mother’s day we would like to thank all the children at the school.

Here at Sherwood Court we are celebrating British pie week by a lovely day out, Frist stop is Deans bakery are local favourite pie shop were residents can pick their favourite pie for lunch, the smells are divine and the staff were very helpful, it brings back memories of the kitchen.

Next stop is Dobbies garden centre for a well-deserved coffee and cake and a good shop, residents enjoyed feeding the fish at the aquarium and said how nice it would be to have one at the home, next back home  for pie and chips the chef had made a lovely homemade steak and kidney pie and apple pie for pudding a wonderful morning had by all.
