Activities at Sherwood Court Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Sherwood Court Care Home

Historic Royal Palaces

Across our services, our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Virtual Book Club

We had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

A great performance from Christie Charles

This afternoon at Sherwood Court, we had Christie Charles come and visit us, and what a show she put on! She brought along different musical instruments for our residents to use during her performances, and Christie really engaged well with everyone.

A visit from Oreo

This afternoon at Sherwood Court we had Orea the cat to visit the residents and he thoroughly enjoyed the attention. The residents loved the snuggling with him.

This brought back a lot of memories for most of the residents and invoked a discussion about cat names we had a lot of fun.

Apacas visit Sherwood Court

Alpacas visited Sherwood Court. The residents, staff, family and friends all loved them. The alpacas came from Woodend Farm with a small team to help. They moved around the home in to bedrooms and the lift! It was a wonderful shock for all the residents. No mess was made, but hearts touched.

We also had some children from Sherwood primary school come over and share the experience with us as part of our community engagement.

The Power of the Internet

This morning at Sherwood Court, we recieved a message through Facebook from a relative of one of our residents, Barbara. Barbara was included in a photograph with other nurses she worked alongside. This picture was spotted on the Preston past and present site.

We printed the picture off and gave Barbara the copies. She was over the moon! This brought back some wonderful memories for her, and she couldn't wait to tell us all of her stories.
