Activities at Sherwood Court Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Sherwood Court Care Home

Conversations by the Pond

We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.

Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.

The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.

Community links

Our residents look forward to their weekly coffee morning at North Preston Evangelical Church, they enjoy making new friends over a morning coffee and freshly baked cakes.  It is also a time for prayer, hymns and a chat.  It is important to our residents to maintain their community links.

A right royal brew!

Sherwood Court Nursing Home in Preston marked the Queen’s 96th birthday on April 21st in style by brewing up a storm for National Tea Day and having an afternoon tea party.

Chef Brandon whipped up a tasty selection of freshly-baked biscuits, pastries and cakes for the occasion, all washed down with a selection of different teas and prosecco.  Residents took part in celebrating the Queens 96th birthday. We spent the morning remembering our gracious queen and her dedication to our country. Watching old celebrations on the television. In the afternoon we had a royal high – tea party for all our residents and relatives, with fresh cakes and sandwiches. Relatives brought cakes along with them to celebrate the occasion. We spent time in the garden having a sing song to national anthem. Residents and relatives had a lovely afternoon dressing up in their best tea party outfits.

Chicks hatch at home

Staff, residents and their guests at Barchester’s Sherwood Court were celebrating the birth of baby chicks this week at the home.  There was a lot of egg-citement at the home as 10 chicks hatched throughout the week. Residents were able to pet and feed the chicks as they found their footing in their new home.

General Manager Elizabeth Brotherton, said: “It was an eggs-cellent day when the eggs finally hatched! Residents at Sherwood Court as well as our team were all very excited about the new-borns, we’ve named the chicks George, Charlotte and Louis after the royal princes and princess.”

Volunteer brings joy to residents

Residents at Sherwood Court are delighted when local volunteer, Agnes visits each week.  Having retired from her career, Agnes helps out around the home from carrying out chores, reading to residents, assisting with activities as part of the homes life enrichment programme to simply chatting to a resident over a cup of tea.  There is always a smile on her face and Residents, love to see her.

Residents enjoy afternoon of music

Residents of Sherwood Court, welcomed talented local musician, Abigail to the home for afternoon of music.  Residents enjoy her musical performance as she delights everyone with her vocals and ability to play many instruments.   There was lots of laughter, singing and fun throughout the afternoon and everyone is looking forward to her next visit.
