Activities at Stamford Bridge Beaumont Care Home

The activity team within our home spend a lot of time committing themselves to organising a range of activities for residents. This includes, pet therapy, trips out to local places of interest, visits from entertainers and musicians, bingo, one to one pamper time, weekly quizzes, coffee mornings, arts and crafts and baking. Activities are considered to be a crucial aspect of our home as residents look forward to upcoming events. As a result, it is essential that our team work together with dedication, to ensure residents are entertained and involved in as many activities as possible.

Michael Lythgoe

Activities Lead

I have worked in the care sector for 36 years, initially working for the NHS at Brandesburton Hospital as a care assistant. When the hospital closed I transferred to Townend Court and continued as a care assistant on the forensic ward for people with a learning disability. It was whilst working with the Occupational therapists at Townend that I discovered my passion for engaging the patients in activities of their choosing, I’m quite artistic and creative so it was an easy transition

I have many years’ experience working with the older generation and those who live with dementia, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and other diagnosis’.

I am really looking forward to bring both my experience and passion to my new role and to see the positive impact on our resident population.

Life at Stamford Bridge Beaumont Care Home

Open Day at Stamford Bridge

Open Day at Stamford Bridge

Last week we had our open day; as usual, we had lots going on throughout the day. We started with some baking in our life style kitchen. There was also music and singing on Memory Lane and a pamper session on our Derwent community. We concluded the morning with some coffee. The afternoon consisted of music by the sax quartet and we had our very own ice cream bar which went down extremely well with residents. The day was a huge success and we had lots of visitors who were keen to check our home.

Ruth Entertains Stamford Bridge

Ruth Entertains Stamford Bridge

We had a really lovely afternoon last week; the lovely Ruth came to sing for us. We enjoyed singing along with her and playing musical instruments and had a really fun visit with her. Ruth has been coming to us for a while now and has really got to know what residents enjoy. Thank you for a lovely visit, we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Pets at Home Come to Visit

Pets at Home Come to Visit

We had a brilliant visit from Pets at Home recently. The lovely Sarah bought in two beautiful reptiles: a chameleon, called Camilla, who has been coming to visit us for some time and is always a pleasure to see; and also a baby bearded dragon, who was very cute. Residents really enjoyed seeing something a bit different and were very brave to hold them.

Thank you to Sarah for the lovely visit.

International Nurses' Day at Stamford Bridge

International Nurses' Day at Stamford Bridge

We celebrated International Nurses' Day on the 12th May. We got some of our lovely nurses - past and present - to come and join us for cake and coffee. We chatted about nursing stories and had a fun morning. Also, there was a gift for all of them to say thank you for all they do and to show them how much their work is appreciated.

Our Trip to Dean's Garden Centre

Our Trip to Dean's Garden Centre

We've had a streak of fantastic sunshine recently, so we decided that we would take a trip to our local garden centre and enjoy the warm weather there. We had a look around at all the flowers, plants and ornaments, and also spent some time watching the fish. We then had a nice home-made scone with coffee before we made our way back.

Our Baking Sessions

Our Baking Sessions

This week, by popular choice, residents decided they would like to do a bit of baking and chose to make scones, so we got the mixture from the kitchen and set about making some fruit scones. We had a great time reminiscing about baking with our mothers and for our families when we were younger. This baking session brought back some lovely memories, and after we made the scones we enjoyed eating them with a cup of tea.
