Hawthorns Care Home is a modern, purpose-built home set in a peaceful residential area of Peterlee. We provide excellent 24-hour nursing care for older people, alongside expert care for those living with dementia in our dedicated Memory Lane Community. We also offer a neurological rehabilitation service for younger adults and cater for respite stays and short breaks.

Our Memory Lane Community is supported by a team of physiotherapists and occupational therapists, in addition to our nursing, activities, support and hospitality teams.

The home also has a music therapist, whose sessions bring fun and laughter to the home, and reach out to people who may otherwise struggle to communicate. Music can help people, regardless of their disability and illness, and sharing in music is an incredibly comforting, positive and affirming activity.

The care we provide is delivered in a way that promotes independence for those who live in our home. Where possible, it is important that residents are encouraged to perform daily tasks independently or with minor support. General Manager

Hi, my name is Karen, and I am the General Manager here at The Hawthorns.

I began my career in the insurance and power generation industries and followed my heart into nursing and becoming a Registered Nurse. My nursing journey has allowed me to work within both hospital and complex care services before moving into management and becoming a Chartered Manager. I joined Barchester Healthcare in 2021 as Operations Manager for the Hospitals and Complex Care Division.#

My passion is empowering others, whether that be empowering residents and families to become involved in planning and decisions around their care and support needs or empowering staff to lead their self-development and meet their career goals.
