Activities at Appletree Grange Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator is constantly arranging new activities to stimulate and catch the imagination of our residents. From visiting entertainers to a regular craft table to outings on the minibus, there is always something for our residents to keep them entertained. Our Activities Coordinator also takes the time to sit with each resident and go through a life history so they get to know what the likes and dislikes of each individual are and can tailor the activities to suit them. A monthly residents meeting is held to get the views of the residents and to get suggestions from them and their families about what they would like to do and everything that can be done to accommodate their requests is done.

Birthday celebrations

With lockdown restrictions, Birthday celebrations aren't quite what everyone had planned but here at Appletree Grange we’ve made it work as Residents took part in wishing Rita a wonderful birthday.  The birthday girl was delighted to be presented with a bouquet of colourful blooms and a delicious home-made birthday cake.

Residents and staff joined together in singing Happy Birthday then watching her blow her candles out!   Happy Birthday Rita.

Competitive fun for Residents

Residents enjoy competitive fun during an afternoon of games at Appletree Grange.  After everyone had warmed up, things got exciting when it was time to play ‘Tin Can Alley’. During each turn, residents were sending the cans off the table and scoring well for the number they were able to knock over with the ball.

The Wonderful Scent of Blooms

Residents at Appletree enjoyed an afternoon of flower arranging to help decorate the home with springtime blooms. The flowers came courtesy of the local Co-op store, who kindly donated flowers to the home, by way of thanks to the care team, who are doing a wonderful job and to bring a smile to Residents.

Everyone enjoyed assorting the flowers to create beautiful arrangements in various vases, while having a catch-up over a cup of tea.  Sharon Stewart General Manager, said: “Everyone really enjoyed the flower arranging activity. Our home looks and smells even more lovely now the beautiful blooms are on display.”

Salvation Donation

Staff were all chuffed to receive a bag of hand cream and sun lotion from the Salvation Army. There were enough bags for every member of staff. A huge thanks to them all!

Letters of Kindness

Residents of Appletree were delighted to receive some beautiful handmade letters, cards and flowers from members of their local community. The residents loved reading the messages in the cards and have displayed them proudly in our home.

Social isolation will only increase due to the ever-developing Coronavirus outbreak. We, the residents and staff of Appletree, would like to help prevent this in any way they can, so we are looking for pen pals of all ages!  The aim is to help individuals in the home and local community to feel connected during this difficult time. If you can, send your cards and letters directly to the home or email Appletreegrange.activities@Barchester.com.
