Activities at Appletree Grange Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator is constantly arranging new activities to stimulate and catch the imagination of our residents. From visiting entertainers to a regular craft table to outings on the minibus, there is always something for our residents to keep them entertained. Our Activities Coordinator also takes the time to sit with each resident and go through a life history so they get to know what the likes and dislikes of each individual are and can tailor the activities to suit them. A monthly residents meeting is held to get the views of the residents and to get suggestions from them and their families about what they would like to do and everything that can be done to accommodate their requests is done.

Christina Curtis

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Christina and I am the activities coordinator here at Appletree Grange. I joined both Barchester and the home in July 2024. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we will work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Appletree Grange Care Home

Medical Detection Dogs

Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs. Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.

Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.

We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff.  It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.

Big Quiz of the Year

All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!

Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Meeting the Reindeers

Across our homes we got into the Christmas spirit of things by joining a festive live virtual experience, led by Des and Kelly from Performing Pets.

Our residents were thrilled to meet the charming furry friends and get up close and personal with the reindeers.

We certainly learnt some interesting facts about the animals and had a fantastic time.

A tip to the local

When you discover your local is back up and running there's only one thing to do

So a few of us folk here at Appletree Grange took ourselves out for lunch and boy oh boy did we enjoy it! Barry said it was the best Scampi he'd had in years

A massive thank you to all the staff at The Barley Mow Inn for making us so welcome, we will definitely be back very soon

Teddy Bear Day

"If you go down to Appletree Grange today you'd be sure of a big surprise..."

All things teddy bear were going on today from gummi bears, chocolate bears, cake bears, crumpet bears, flannel bears, gift bears and a bear hug from our very own Huggie Bear!

Italian Day

Ciao here from us all at Appletree Grange as today we turned to everything Italiano.

From the staff decked out in their green white and red, 50 interesting Italian facts, making pizza and focaccia, trying out limencello (but much preferring Baileys) Italian biscuits, spaghetti Bolognese, Tiramisu throwing coins into our very own Trevi fountain phew !

And the day wouldn't be complete without a visit from Gina Neapolitan who kindly parked her Gondola and gave us 'just one cornetto'
