Activites at Appletree Grange Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our Activities Coordinator is constantly arranging new activities to stimulate and catch the imagination of our residents. From visiting entertainers to a regular craft table to outings on the minibus, there is always something for our residents to keep them entertained. Our Activities Coordinator also takes the time to sit with each resident and go through a life history so they get to know what the likes and dislikes of each individual are and can tailor the activities to suit them. A monthly residents meeting is held to get the views of the residents and to get suggestions from them and their families about what they would like to do and everything that can be done to accommodate their requests is done.

Christina Curtis
Activities Coordinator
Hi, my name is Christina and I am the activities coordinator here at Appletree Grange. I joined both Barchester and the home in July 2024. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we will work together to give residents the best possible experience.
We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends
Celebrating life at Appletree Grange Care Home
May at Appletree Grange
A few of our residents had a lovely afternoon in Barley Mow pub to celebrate a resident's birthday and soak up the sunshine recently. Everyone had such a lovely time. We also took some residents to our local garden centre to see all the lovely flowers and plants. We stopped off for a nice cake and hot beverage. We all had a delightful morning.
Now the nicer weather is approaching, we decided to get our paddling pool out to splash our feet in it. This was a garden afternoon well spent and a perfect way to cool us all down.

Birtley Library
We have had a special visit from Birtley library.
They helped us go back in time to reminisce 'the good old days' around Gateshead and Birtley. This brought our home so much joy and laughter. We will be delighted for them to visit us again.

Easter Party!
What a wonderful day we've had! The Easter party was a huge success, filled with laughter, love, and joy. Our residents had the loveliest time spending the day with their families, and the home was absolutely buzzing with the sound of happy little feet and giggles!
The children had a blast decorating Easter eggs, going on a fun-filled egg hunt around the garden, planting sunflower seeds, and, of course — indulging in lots of delicious cakes and chocolate!
The energy and smiles they brought with them truly warmed everyone’s hearts — it’s days like these that remind us how special our community is. I would like to thank you all for all the kind donations for our Easter raffle and thank you to everyone who purchased tickets. The grand total raised was a whopping £160.

Museum Trip!
Just stepped out of the time machine... or so it feels like after our epic visit to Beamish Museum! Colliery, tram rides, and vintage vibes everywhere – we were totally transported to another era.
Anyone else feel like they've gone back in time? We all enjoyed a long over due day trip, plenty of happy memories, laughs and giggles.
Fun at Appletree Grange!
This month we've had lots of fun enjoying the sunshine and the first signs of Spring. The ladies have been enjoying their afternoons in the garden as they play bingo!
Our residents have also been busy at our weekly cookery club. Fun and enjoyment while they make some lovely scones.
One of our residents very much enjoyed a trip to Dobbie’s garden centre too, whilst picking her daffodils on her way.

Baking Club
Today, our residents had a scone-derful time at our morning cooking club, making delicious fruit scones from scratch!
The fun didn’t stop there—we wrapped up the day with an action-packed indoor sports afternoon! Keeping active and baking up a storm—just how we like it!

Nutrition and Hydration Week
Appletree celebrated 'Nutrition & Hydration' week and our hospitality team absolutely smashed it! Huge thanks to our fantastic crew for keeping us fuelled and refreshed all week long. Extra special shoutout to Chef David, who’s pulled off one of his Ramsey-level fruit platters—seriously, a work of art!
And if that wasn’t enough, he’s treated us to homemade fresh cream cakes and the fluffiest cream scones around. Talk about next-level nourishment! Massive appreciation to everyone behind the scenes making it all happen—you’ve outdone yourselves!

Greenfingers in gardening club
Our fabulous residents have been getting creative in the garden! They've had their green fingers out, planting seeds and sprucing up our outdoor space. And what better way to do it than on a sunny day?
Nothing beats soaking up some sunshine while surrounded by nature. Great job, everyone! Our garden is looking better than ever!

Home applauds activities team
