Activities at Ashby House Care Home

Activities at Ashby House

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to enrich peoples lives here at Ashby House. We stimulate people both physically and mentally by organising fun filled, group and individual activities to promote the well-being of those we support.

There are regular outings in our very own minibus and visits from PAT dog therapists, church services, musicians, dancers, and local school children. We also have our very own 'Good Life' gardening club, where we grow our own produce, which we then use in our cooking club. We also host weekly bingo sessions which are proving very popular and are growing in numbers.

Lucia’s Tiny Farm visit to Ashby House

This month we had Lucia’s Tiny Farm visit, she came in with lots of lovely fluffy and not so fluffy animals.

Our residents loved seeing all the different animals including a bearded dragon, chicken, bunny and guinea pig. It was good to see everyone smile.

Mothers Day

We love celebrating many themed days here at Ashby House, and Mothering Sunday is such a lovely event  to celebrate.

Residents, in the morning enjoyed creating some beautiful  floral posies, and after a wonderful Sunday Lunch residents attended a lavish Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea.

We had many families joining us for the Afternoon tea which made it an extra special occasion for all involved.

Baking Welsh Cakes for St. David's Day

We all enjoyed St David’s Day this month, we had many themed activities for our residents to enjoy, one of them being baking Welsh Cakes.

Welsh cakes have been popular since the late 19th century, a sweet bread with added spices and fruit traditionally cooked on a cast iron griddle.

We really enjoyed making these Welsh treats, and later in the day we all sat down and enjoyed them with a nice cup of tea!

Historic Royal Palaces

Our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Book Club Corner

Across our services, our residents had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Musical Entertainment

We enjoy regular live entertainment here at Ashby House with a variety of performers in each month. Our residents love a good sing-a-long and always join in with smiles on their faces.

Music is so therapeutic for everyone and we all love singing to our old favourite songs, making us feel so good.
