"Care, kindness, compassion and love describe the end-of-life care given to my mother and the ongoing care given to my father, who is also a resident. The whole team made this very hard time as good as it could be and continues to give us support and confidence."

"Barchester Ashby House Care Home has looked after my mum for over three years now, they are absolutely wonderful, everyone is caring, compassionate and friendly, I am so pleased my mum is in Ashby House. Mum, sadly, is now in respite care and the team has been marvellous at moving her to be near the nurse's station and making her welcome and comfortable and keeping me informed. Thank you so much for giving me peace of mind, it means so much."

"My husband is a long-time resident - now four years. Always been very happy with care and support. No real concerns to report - always kept informed if he is not so well. Some days, recently, feel less than usual staff available but those that are available are always so kind and friendly and work so hard. When occasional visitors accompany me, they always comment on the cleanliness with no stale toilet or cooking smells and welcoming staff."

"My mum had to be moved to a home in July and finding the right one was a stressful time. The team at Barchester Ashby House Care Home were amazing and from the first phone call with the administrator through to getting Mum settled was a great experience. The team really cares and have gone the extra mile to make sure that Mum was settled. The room is lovely and the facilities are well-kept and the open spaces are welcoming. Only small glitch is that the wi-fi in some rooms is not as strong and maintaining contact is not always possible. That aside, it is a great place and we are very happy Mum has a new home. I can fully recommend Ashby House."

"Whilst I have always been happy with Ashby House (and my aunt is extremely happy - calls the carer's family and loves them) since the new manager has been in place things have even improved no end! Everyone seems happier, staff are definitely happier - I am told because "He gets involved and sorts things!" The place is happier, big improvement all round! I visit 3 times a week and go in and out at all times but Ashby House is always the same. Cool, calm, settled and happy. The carers and nursing staff are second to none - an excellent care home!"

"My wife was diagnosed with dementia in August 2015 and was invited to become a resident at Ashby House. Initially, we were impressed with the home, but over the period to September 2017, we became less happy with their overall performance and I was travelling 45 miles - 3 times per week to visit. I believe the problems with the home stem from the number of managers in those 2 years and that there was little continuity with the carers during that time. There are signs that the latest manager is making some improvements but there is a lot of room to improve. My wife is moving to Hemel Hampstead which is better for me to visit."

"Staff are amazing, working hard, activities have improved lots, residents have stimulations daily. Anytime I've asked for anything I had an immediate and positive response. Staff nurses very very competent and admiral and helpful. People will need to see Ashby House, it's so much changed. The lounge could benefit of new furniture, its memory lane. Staff are smiling, says good evening every time I call in."

"We had to find a care home on very short notice for my ailing grandmother. We were shown around by the very welcoming manager. The care home was beautifully presented, clean and friendly. The residents all looked content and happy. As soon as my grandmother arrived she was given the best care possible. The nurse was very good at explaining what would happen with my grandmother’s health and we were immediately put at ease. The care my grandmother received was nothing short of compassionate and excellent. Our only wish was that we would have loved to have got her to Ashby Care Home sooner."

"Since my mum sadly passed at Ashby House last August they have given the home a most beautiful makeover. I have to say it is like walking into a 1st class hotel. The rooms are beautifully and tastefully done. The reception, lounges and dining room are also beautiful. I was glad to see that most of the staff still worked there and they are helping to create a warm and inviting environment for the Residents and their families. A very beautiful caring home. I would recommend it to anyone. Now 5 star."

"Generally, poor care homes receive justifiably bad press but rarely do excellent homes receive the praise they deserve. Ashby House deserves all the accolades you can muster. It is fresh, clean and tidy and their facilities are exemplary. The staff are genuinely caring and experienced. My mother was admitted for palliative/end of life care recently after spending some 5 weeks in the hospital. If she had been admitted earlier, she wouldn't have lived any longer but her last days would have been more comfortable and dignified."

"We are so grateful for the support that our mum and we were given during her short stay at Ashby House and the kindness we were shown. All the staff were very friendly, courteous and professional. Our mum was treated with dignity and her wishes respected by all the staff at Ashby House. The nurses were very caring, reassuring and proactive. They brought in the correct medical professionals to support our mother's well being, kept on top of all medical needs, sorted out a special mattress and chased up on medical appointments. They kept us fully informed on our mother's condition in a very compassionate way. The carers were very cheerful and caring. They took time to sit with our mum and nothing was too much trouble. Both the manager and deputy manager fully understood our mum's special needs and circumstances which eased our worries considerably. They were very approachable and made all the appropriate arrangements. We cannot recommend Ashby House highly enough and we will be forever grateful."

"This is the third time my wife, who has Alzheimer's Dementia, has stayed at Ashby House and each time the standard of care has been excellent. The staff care so well for the residents and in a relaxing and friendly way. It is comforting to be able to go away and relax knowing that my wife will be so well looked after. Once again I can say a very big thank you to the manager and her team."

"Visited for the first time yesterday and what a wonderful surprise. Happy staff, nothing was too much trouble. BBQ out in the garden with memory lane music being played. Residents were so well cared for, only had to ask for help and it was given with a smile. Very impressed. Thanks to you all."

"Like most children when faced with having to place a parent in a care home you're worried is this the right place, will they be treated with dignity and respect. Will they have all their needs met. Ashby House is wonderful. The nurses and carers go above and beyond to mee my dd's needs. They tall to him as a person and give him choices of what he wants i.e up what to eat going outings, eating in the dining room to socialise. Dad loves his new home just after we moved him there they had a BBQ out in the garden. All the family members were invited. There was a DJ playing a variety of music. A great way to meet new friends and other families. There are daily activities that encourage the residents to try something new. There are weekly outings for anyone who wishes to go out. The nurses have been a tremendous help with my dad's illness and the empathy they show is wonderful. They help with any worries or concerns. The carers are wonderful. If they are busy they strive to make sure our loved ones are cared for. The time spent talking to all the people who reside here learning about their lives, interests, history of work and more. The kitchen staff make wonderful home-cooked meals. They try to make sure there is a variety of choices daily and follow any special restrictions. The laundry and housekeeping were diligent to ensure the home is clean every day all day. Your laundry is done daily without you having to worry. There is tea, coffee and water always available to everyone in the lobby. You will always find cake there too. We are very pleased that we chose Ashby House as my/our dads new home."

"I felt that the residents were always treated with kindness and patience. The staff worked hard to provide a very caring and calming environment sometimes in quite challenging situations. There always seemed to be a lot of activities happening. It was good to see a full timetable displayed each week. As visitors, we were always made to feel very welcome and during the night we spent at my nan's bedside, the staff could not have done more to help us (despite being very busy with their usual duties). The home was always spotlessly clean and tidy."

"Just wanted to say how lovely everyone at Ashby House was. My dad ( who has Parkinsons) came in for respite whilst we sorted out the sale of his house. The manager and his team made Dad feel very at home and dealt with all the aspects of his illness with great care."

"My mother spent over 10 years in Ashby House. I was deeply moved by the genuine affection and respect she had from all those in the home and thank everyone for the care and support you showed her, both through normal and difficult times. And also for the foresight that allowed me to be there towards and at the end. I will always hold the Ashby House team in great respect, both for what you did for my mother and also in managing so admirably in our present circumstances."

"It is difficult enough having your mum in care, without the added stress of not being able to see her properly or explain why. What makes things slightly easier is knowing how much love and care for my mum all the staff have. I really can't thank all the team at Ashby House enough. They are always trying to do their best for mum, they know what she likes and try to arrange things that she will enjoy and make her time there as best as it can be. Mum has been there for 18 months and it very quickly became her home and the staff are like her family. I would highly recommend Ashby House and the whole team."

"When my mother convalesced at Ashby House, following an operation just before Christmas, I was most impressed with the level of care and respect she received during her time there (just over 3 weeks). The Manager, nurses and care staff bent over backwards to ensure all Mum's needs were met. As a consequence, she made a very good recovery, gained strength and her mobility also improved as a result. The Manager and the nursing staff kept me very well informed with regards to Mum's care and progress. My mother was also very impressed with the level of care she received and remembers the staff fondly. I would definitely recommend."

"My aunt has been at Ashby House for more than a year now. I couldn’t have chosen a better home. The nursing staff keep me informed of my aunts well-being by phone, so important in this Covid year. She is very well cared for. I have been particularly impressed with the activity organisers and the amazing variety of activities and events organised for the residents. We see what they have been up to with a regular newsletter that always includes lovely photos. I cannot thank the staff enough for the way the team as a whole cared for their residents."

"My husband came into Barchester Ashby House Care Home end of October 2018, he was transferred from another home. He came on six weeks end of life care, he is still with us. He is well looked after always kept clean and he is well fed. The staff are always there if needed and very helpful. My husband spends time asleep very rarely out of bed. Overall he is well looked after I could not ask for more."

"Dad transferred her from another care home last November. I was initially very concerned about him leaving his other care home. I needn't have worried, Dad is treated with such kindness, respect and dignity here at Barchester Ashby House Care Home. He is extremely settled and happy here and the staff cannot do enough for him. He enjoys the food choices, activities and likes his room (when he can find it!) It is such peace of mind for me to see him contented and making new connections with staff and other residents."

"My wife was agitated and distressed prior to admission and the staff turned that around incredibly quickly. By the time of my first visit, she was calmer than she had been in months, content and actually eating again. I have nothing but praise for the staff, they are patient and kind and seem very fond of my wife. She feels safe and mostly calm again. My only criticism so far is that recently when I picked her up to take her for a hospital appointment she didn't have the right incontinence pads on so an accident in the car proved to be very messy."
