Activities at Ashlar House Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Rita Green
As the Community Engagement Lead and Lifestyle Coordinator, I will be spending time with each resident and their loved ones to build a detailed picture of each individual, so that each person’s stay with us is as meaningful as possible. Although I have been working within this field for many years, thanks to the uniqueness of each resident, I am always enjoying new experiences in my role. My goal is to create an activities programme that caters to the capabilities of residents, including, but not limited to, individual and group activity.
I've spent the past few years forging strong relationships within the community and developing a pool of talented individuals that can support our in-house team to bring out the best in those we care for.
As we never stop growing and changing, it is important that we maintain an up-to-date Getting To Know Me booklet. With your help, the activities scheduled for your loved ones will be as relevant and enjoyable as possible.
I’m very much looking forward to working with all of you.

Chinese New Year
We welcomed in the Year Of The Tiger with a day of celebrations and activities.
We started our morning by collecting ingredients and looking through recipes. Inspired by the Chinese culture and traditions, our Head Chef - Ariel prepared a range of delicious Chinese dishes for our residents to enjoy.
We also took some time to read how tea was rationed and taxed back in the 18th and 19th centuries and had the opportunity to try and taste a selection of teas.
It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all.
Feathered Therapy
Today our residents were delighted to welcome a small flock of super friendly budgies as well a parakeet into the home!
The wonderful team from our partners at Performing Pets have been spreading laughter and joy with some cheeky and colourful birds were a great hit with the both residents and team members.
It was a delight to get up close to these beautiful animals and to learn more about them.

102nd Birthday Celebrations
Celebrations have been in full swing at Ashlar House as one of our residents reaches 102 years old!
Gladys was joined by staff and relatives as the wonderful children of Coopersale & Theydon Garnon Primary School sang happy birthday to Gladys via Facetime. Head Chef Ariel has also baked a special birthday cake for Gladys to enjoy whilst she opens her many birthday cards.
General Manager Sharon said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing age. Gladys is such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more as she continues into her second century.”
Birthdays are important and at Ashlar House our team makes sure each one is celebrated in style.
Oomph! On Demand
Today our residents had a great time with various one-on-one educational sessions, provided by Oomph! On Demand.
The Oomph! On Demand platform features personalised activity ideas, exercise inspiration and much more. Our residents got involved in topical quizzes, were able to watch ballet and theatrical performances, read articles and access books, all based on their individual preferences.
This valuable resource has endless possibilities and will be available for all our residents.
