"My husband has been a resident at Barchester Ashlar House Care Home for nearly 2 years. His behaviour has been challenging at times, but the whole team of staff from nurses, carers, admin and household, have worked so hard to get to know him and recognise his behaviours to ensure they make him feel safe, secure and comfortable. I also have a wonderful relationship with the team here, who have been extremely supportive to me and I feel able to speak freely with them concerning my husband's care. He celebrated his 70th birthday last week and everyone made such an effort and made a fuss of him. He seemed to have some understanding of the occasion and certainly enjoyed the music, cake and balloons along with fellow residents who joined in. I personally spend many hours at Ashlar each day and observe how staff care for other residents as well as my husband, and I am confident I made the right decision in placing him in their care."

"The staff at Ashlar House have made what could have been a very stressful, upsetting situation so much more manageable. They are so caring and not only do they look after the residents but also the family members. They are always available to chat and have been a massive support system to me and my whole family. We are so grateful for their kindness and the care they give our dad on a daily basis."

"Since my mother's arrival at Ashlar House in June 2023 I have been delighted with the care that she has received. She has always been treated with dignity and kindness and she very much considers this as her home. The ability of the carers and nurses here to deal with her volatile diabetes has enabled her to live a very comfortable life in a lovely environment for which I am very grateful. I would recommend this home to anyone without hesitation."

"My father was in Barchester Ashlar House Care Home for ten weeks last year and it was excellent in all respects. I was so glad and lucky to find that they had a room available when I needed a place for my uncle last August (2023). He has been there ever since and is very happy. I could 'box tick' all the good points about Ashlar but the main difference compared with other homes that I have visited is that all of the staff really get to know all of the residents and this is what leads to such good care being given. The nurses are concerned to make sure that residents' dignity is maintained at all times and along with the management team, always embrace any concerns that family members may have and are happy to accommodate their requirements."

"In my experience, the staff at Barchester Ashlar House Care Home are always professional and caring when carrying out their duties with the residents. There is a caring, friendly atmosphere which makes relatives feel at ease, welcomed and valued. All staff, management, administrative, nursing carers and domestics, show care, courtesy and respect to all visitors which makes relatives feel able to speak to any member of staff if any concerns over the relatives arise. This, I feel, is particularly important when a relative first arrives at a care home which can be very stressful for all. I highly recommend Ashlar House to prospective residents."

"I am the daughter of a resident from Ashlar House Care Home who sadly passed away in the early hours of yesterday morning whilst in your care. I just wanted to express my deepest felt appreciation and massive thanks for everything that the care staff did for my mum during her last few harrowing months/weeks of her life in at Ashlar House. I simply just cannot speak highly enough of the staff’s genuine kindness, concern and ongoing dedication. I honestly feel that they went above and beyond the call of duty in caring for my mum. They all work so tirelessly hard in carrying out a very physically and emotionally demanding job and I never once heard a single one of them moan. They were always so warm, welcoming and friendly and couldn’t do more to go out of their way to help my mum in any way humanly possible given her high level of requirements."

"My mother-in-law has been a resident at Ashlar for more than four years and she appears to be very happy there. I say ‘appears to be’ because sadly she can no longer communicate in this way but I know that the standards are high and the care from the staff is second to none. They are always so kind, considerate and unbelievably patient. The meals are excellent too and, even though her food now has to be puréed for her, it is still presented as attractively and imaginatively as is possible. There are many areas to walk around and there are three gardens, a dining room and two lounges. One further positive factor is the appointment of the Acting Manager and the resulting stability this has brought to the wonderful staff of Nurses and Carers. Ashlar has further strengthened and improved as there is now a focus on valuable in-house knowledge and expertise being constructively shared."

"A recent period of hospitalisation following a fall in a previous home, provided a good opportunity to move my Dad to Ashlar House where he is closer to his family. The staff have been attentive and supportive - they have settled Dad in and have got him involved with the numerous activities going on. It is great to see Dad so happy. Ashlar House put in the extra effort to provide a fun and stimulating home for residents in which friends and family are always made welcome."

"My dear Mother has been living at the Ashlar care home now for some time and my visits are often. I couldn't be more happier with my Mothers care. Ashlar is a very happy home to many residents and their families. Family afternoons with song and music take place regularly, these afternoons are very pleasant and I have enjoyed being part of them. My Mother's care is superb and I speak very highly of the home and all the staff there. The food is very tasty, the home is always clean and warm and during the different seasons, the home is decorated accordingly. (Easter/Christmas/Mother's Day, and so on). I have great pleasure in submitting this review and am very happy to share my views of Ashlar. I would highly recommend Ashlar to anyone's relative."

"we only got to experience this care home for a short period, but I have to say throughout the time we spent visiting here we found all staff amazing. From when we first went to view the home the staff were helpful and most of all approachable. Nothing seemed too much which to us was a major positive. The time my friend spent within the care home improved her quality of life and the staff made sure she was comfortable at all times. They also made an effort to get her out of bed and if she couldn't then they would bring activities to her which made my friends day. I think the thing that stood out to us was that the staff seemed to care and have time for the residents."

"Mum has been a resident at Ashlar for a year now. During this time I have found the staff extremely helpful when being approached. The food looks appetising and Mum always eats enthusiastically. Ashlar is a clean and homely establishment with several lounges where residents can wander between lounges and choose a seating area of their choice."

"It was my Nan's 100th birthday. The home did an amazing job. They made sure she had the best time (a party and a singer) wonderful. She really enjoyed it and so did all the family. Seeing her smiling and signing was so great to see. It was all down to the wonderful staff. Thank you so much, it really made her day and you all worked as you do every day, so hard. You are all such a lovely caring bunch of girls and it makes us, as a family, happy to know she is in good hands."

Culinary preferences are taken into consideration and used by family or GP. One to one is available for more vulnerable clients with their independence and current abilities sustained as part of their ongoing care ensuring each person reaches his/her own potential.
