Activites at Balclutha Court Care Home
At Balclutha Court our resident’s happiness is extremely important to us. We all know that a large part of this is keeping active and continuing to enjoy your interests and hobbies. At Balclutha Court, we have regular activities including arts and crafts, music, entertainment, trips to local attractions such as canal trips, safari parks and many more. Our activities team are always busy organising events, entertainment and excursions with the broadest possible appeal and many of our residents see living at Balclutha Court as an opportunity to develop a new skill or interest. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Karen Dillon
Head of Activities
Karen Dillon is our Head of Activities and has worked within the home since 2005, starting out as a Carer. Karen is very outgoing and full of fun. She has many hobbies, with arts & crafts being her favourite, and her passion for this can be seen in our life enrichment programme.
Karen is supported by Kay Millar and Anita Marsh, between them they ensure that residents are happy and have loads of fun.
They are very keen to involve the residents in the decision making within the home to enhance their experience. They take part in the residents' meetings, catering forums and assist the General Manager in interviewing new staff members.
Celebrating life at Balclutha Court Care Home

Flower planting
We don’t get too much of the thing the call summer here in Scotland but do try and make the best of it when we do. When the big ball in the sky popped out we took the opportunity to plant our Garden baskets.
We had great fun getting our hands dirty and had a good old laugh while we did so.

Nursery Graduation
We were over the moon to be invited along again to our Balclutha Bairns Nursery Graduation. We have watched them grown into these smashing wee people.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as we watched them bursting with pride and waving at us from the stage. We will miss them all but look forward to our new bairns joining us for next term.

Cheese and wine
We had a fabulous afternoon at our cheese and wine event this month. We enjoyed a variety of selection of cheeses washed down with a variety of wines.
Everyone got involved and tried all the different flavours while scoring their favourites. Lovely afternoon had by all.

Cinco De Mayo
We had a great time celebrating Cinco de Mayo in the garden this year with food, drinks and games.
Everyone especially enjoyed hitting the piñata for the candy.

World Cocktail Day!
We celebrated World Cocktail Day by trying out Cocktail and Mocktail recipes, old and new. Luckily, the weather turned up for us and we were able to enjoy our drinks in the sun.
Obviously, we had a good old sing-song too.

Doreen's 70th Birthday
Doreen had a week full of celebrations for her 70th birthday. Starting with a cocktail afternoon where she enjoyed a few wee tipples, then a fabulous afternoon with her favourite heart throb, Elvis (impersonator), followed by a good old Scottish knees-up with more live entertainment.
Doreen, you are one in a million, and we are so glad we were able to celebrate with you.

Easter Community Event
We always have a great time when our friends from neighbouring homes join us for our community events in the local church hall.
This month was our annual Easter get together, and we had a fantastic day enjoying homemade food, live entertainment and a good old-fashioned knees-up.

Bake Sale
There were lots and lots of tasty treats on offer at our bake sale this month. We raised money for the Barchester Foundation and had so much fun doing so.
Family members and staff donated delicious homemade baking and staff and residents tended to the stall. What a lovely afternoon for a great cause.

Scrabble Afternoon
We love when our friends come to visit for games, especially when it’s one of our favourites (Mega Scrabble).
Our pals from our local daycare facility unfortunately beat us on our home ground, so we need to get some practice in before their next visit.
