Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Easter celebrations

Students from Roecliffe CE Primary School kindly visited and set up an Easter egg hunt in our garden for the residents to enjoy. With some clues and direction from the children, residents worked with them in small groups to locate as many chocolate eggs as we could, hidden in the grounds! What fun this was! We then spent time inside chatting together about our Easter traditions and exchanged handmade cards and Easter treats! We also had the wonderful team and children from Happy Jays Nursery - Boroughbridge visit. We decided it would be great fun to set up an Easter Egg hunt in the garden, for us all to enjoy with the smaller children as the weather stayed fine. The residents get so much joy from seeing young children having fun together and enjoy their company greatly. One of our residents and her daughter also crocheted some Easter egg cosies in the run up to Easter, to donate to all of our residents, which were very gratefully received by everyone!

Residents enjoy pet therapy visit

Boroughbridge Manor was full of animal mischief when a group of Guinea pigs came to visit the home. Residents at Boroughbridge Manor were pleasantly surprised to see their new furry friends roaming around their home as guinea pigs from Sycamore Nook Therapet’s paid a visit.

Activity coordinator Leoni Senior said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitors today. We knew that having the guinea pigs here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus.  We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”

Come Sing!

Residents across our homes and hospitals had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper from Biiah as he led an amazing sing-a-long session for residents to enjoy. Residents who joined the event were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ by Jimmy Cliff and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles. Across our homes there were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.

Farm life for Boroughbridge Residents

Staff and residents had a fantastic time visiting Yolk Farm and Kitchen where they all enjoyed taking part in a lamb feeding session.

Residents and staff had a brilliant time bottle feeding the lambs and learning all about life on the farm and how the lambs are cared for by the farmers from birth.

Activities Coordinator, Leoni Senior said: “We absolutely loved being able to take our residents out and about to visit the farm, it makes us so happy to be able to access venues like this which are close by.  It has been a fantastic day and we’ve all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.”

Administrator celebrates 10-years service

The homes administrator has received a prestigious 10 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years. Louisa Pedder,  started at Barchester in April 2014 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Nicole Benn, Operations Manager said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 10 years of loyal service with Louisa. She has demonstrated her dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at Boroughbridge Manor when I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working with Louisa.

Inside the Factory

We had a brilliant time across our services with Harrogate Skills 4 Living as they took us on a wonderful virtual visit to their Harrogate Chocolate Factory.

Residents were thrilled to discover details about the chocolate-making process and the fascinating journey from bean to bar, all while enjoying some delicious sweet treats.

The Factory aims to employ people with learning disabilities and autism, involving them in all parts of the process, from sorting and roasting the beans to packaging and sales. The experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined this event.
