Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2013, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Kelly have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Coronation celebrations at Boroughbridge

Excitement was in the air at Boroughbridge Manor in Boroughbridge as they celebrated the King’s Conation on May 6.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a King.  Over the bank holiday weekend the home held a street party, royal afternoon teas, alpaca visits and a Coronation themed quiz. The whole home came together to celebrate our new King and talk about the new era the country is entering.

Alpaca adventure!

Boroughbridge Manor care home, in Boroughbridge, was full of animal mischief when a group of alpacas came to visit the home. Residents at Boroughbridge Manor were pleasantly surprised to see their new furry friends roaming around the building as Joe’s Owl Encounters & Exotic Mobile Zoo paid a visit.

Head of Activities Shelbie Taylor said: “Our residents really enjoyed their unusual visitors. We knew that having the farm here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus.  We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”

Coronation talk

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

St George's Day

It was all dragons and roses all round at Boroughbridge Manor care home, in Boroughbridge, as residents and staff celebrated St George’s Day.  Legend has it St George was a soldier in the Roman army who slayed a dragon and saved a princess, the anniversary of his death is celebrated as England’s national day.

Friday Friendships

We took a trip out to our sister home Leeming Bar Grange for an Easter eggstravaganza!

We were treated to a delicious Hot Cross Brunch which included a variety of Hot Cross Buns, washed down with a lovely glass of Bucks Fizz or Peach Bellini followed by the nation’s favourite, Fish & Chips

Residents enjoyed getting to know one another as they sang golden oldies together, it was such a fantastic atmosphere!

Sunshine, Friends & Smiles

We wanted to make the most of the sunshine this afternoon so we decided to go out into the garden and soak up some rays!

Residents enjoyed a good natter, cup of tea & snacks as they played eye spy and listened to their favourite summer time music.
