Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Life at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Blooming Haus

We were delighted to join Blooming Haus’s Christmas Wreath Making Masterclass, where Master Florist, Michal and his business partner - Michael showed us the best method to create beautiful festive wreaths.

Following the tips and ideas learnt during the amazing virtual experience, we were happy to put our skills to a test and to enter the #BarchesterChristmasWreaths competition.

We all had a wonderful time creating our festive wreath/s.

Thank you @bloominghaus for helping our residents flow into the true spirit of Noel.

The staff all dressed up and it was a great day enjoyed by everyone.

K L Pony therapy

Residents at Boroughbridge Manor enjoyed Pony Therapy for Remembrance Day. KL pony therapy came in and the pony, Monet was beautifully dressed even down to his glittery hooves.

Boroughbridge Manor always love having pony therapy in, it’s amazing what a pony can do. Animals really are peoples best friend!

Armistice Day

Boroughbridge Manor in Boroughbridge commemorated the signing of the Armistice Day agreement on the day that the guns finally fell silent.  They joined the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at the eleventh hour, on the eleventh day, of the eleventh month.

As well as marking Armistice Day by wearing poppies and observing the national two minute silence, residents took part in therapeutic activities including a virtual live event from the English National Ballet and live performance from Trevor Woodhead who played us some beautiful songs. Residents and staff had a wonderful time.

Residents mark Remembrance Day with English Ballet

We celebrated Remembrance Day with English National Ballet Associate Dance Artist, Richard Bermange, who led a creative dance workshop for our residents followed by a short clip of Akram Khan’s work Dust, premiered in 2014 as part of ENB’s Lest We Forget programme, commemorating the First World War.

An ENB Company Dancer, recalled their account of performing in the piece and provided context to the themes. To bring this element to a close, some of the specific hand movements from the duet were demonstrated by Jennie Harrington - Artistic Coordinator.

Our residents had a wonderful time as they listened, danced and were able to singalong to famous war time music performed by ENB Associate Musician, Matt Hartley-Stevens.

The session incorporated the national two minute’s silence at 11am to mark the exact time the guns fell silent at the end of the First World War in 1918.

Residents celebrate the day of the dead

This week we marked Dia de los Muertos, also known as the Mexican Day of the Dead, and we decorated our home with beautiful colours, garlands and flags.

Our residents enjoyed making paper marigold flowers during an art class and our talented chef prepared a delicious Mexican feast with Chicken Tamales with Tomatillo-Cilantro Salsa, virgin margaritas and nachos.

We focused on prayers and remembrance of friends and families who are no longer with us.

It was a great day, enjoyed by all.
