Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I am proud to be the Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor since 2013, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Kelly have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Its a day of celebration for this lovely lady, Nancy! She's a cheeky sort and never fails to make you laugh on daily basis with her sass and outlook on life.

Its a pleasure to celebrate your 82nd birthday with you!

Rainy Days at Boroughbridge Manor

While the wind is blowing and the rain is lashing its the perfect opportunity to get the board games out and have some fun!

Short of getting the canoes out and having a paddle around the garden, indoor activities will be filling our residents time, keeping them entertained and stimulated!

Valentines Day Celebrations at Boroughbridge Manor

Our home was filled with flowers, cards, balloons and decorations as we celebrated the day of love in style with sweet treats and gifts.

Our residents had the opportunity to taste delicious themed sweet and savoury treats, prepared by our talented chef, whilst listening to all-time favourite love songs.

It was a lovely day and it was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get involved with the days festivities.

Virtual cookery demonstration

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.  Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.

Residents enjoy Bingo afternoon

Eyes down!

A spot of bingo today for our residents, which they love!

Researchers have found that playing bingo has multiple health benefits for the elderly. It takes concentration - which improves listening and short term memory skills and it promotes socialization - which is essential for seniors to maintain a happy and healthy lifestyle.

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pudding Competition

Excitement is running high at Boroughbridge Manor as we have been cooking up a storm to enter the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pudding Competition.

The competition is being run by Fortnum & Mason to create a pudding that the whole nation can bake for themselves and that will be served not only at Jubilee parties up and down the country, but to the Queen herself to celebrate her 70 years on the throne.

We put our heads together and donned our aprons to come up with a scrumptious pudding that we think encapsulates the Queen’s reign. Our fabulous pudding is called ‘The Secret Crown’ and we are very happy how it turned out.

Residents decided on their favourite cake – a Victoria Sponge classic with a twist (which is a secret not to be shared) and spent time decorating it to represent the United Kingdom and our majesty, Queen Elizabeth.
