Activities at The Cedars Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Angela Cawsey
My name is Angela Cawsey and I am 60 years young. I have lived locally to Cedars since 2011, firstly in Downton and more recently in Alderbury. In the past I have worked with mature people in their homes, and adults with learning difficulties in a number of settings. During lockdown I ran daily zoom sessions for wellbeing, including bingo and quizzes.
I enjoy spending time with people and helping them smile, whether on a one-to-one basis or in groups. When my children were young I volunteered as a helper at Boys Brigade and St John’s Ambulance which was very rewarding.
Other jobs I have enjoyed include, selling computers, an IT and Management Trainer, HR and Business Manager and my personal favourite, being Grandma to 8 grandchildren. I love music, craft, the outdoors and animals.

Life at The Cedars Care Home
Baby twins visit the Cedars
Yesterday we had the pleasure of meeting our two newest members to the Cedars family!
Ade, one of our Senior Carers and his wife Kemi, welcomed twins Teniola (a gorgeous baby girl) and Eniola (a handsome baby boy) to their family. Their eldest son, Semilore, couldn’t be a happier and is loving having big brother duties!
As part of knit and natter Rosemarie has knitted over 600 squares for customised blankets for both of the newbies! Rosemarie is a keen knitter and will also be selling her blankets at our Christmas Fayre.
Busy Week!
We’ve had another busy week at the Cedars with lots of exciting activities and outings to enjoy. We had our very own celebration service; the rabbits came for a visit followed by the story of a 1593 Persian Princess. Our residents played bingo against other Barchester homes and visited the local garden centre for coffee.
There was an evening social, a fun keep fit class and variety hour with Malcolm. There really is never a dull moment at the Cedars!
TODAY ROCKED!
Local rock band, Dark Matter, visited The Cedars and delighted residents, staff and families with a live music show. Our wonderful kitchen staff made delicious “rock” cakes, and amazing cocktails.
A special thank you also to our Head of Maintenance, Lee Webb for discovering the band and inviting them in for us. We are so lucky to have such a variety of different entertainment available!
We partied to songs from Queen, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Billy Idol and other 80’s rock hits!
WELCOMING PARTY
On Monday we welcomed two new residents to The Cedars! A new resident, and a returning resident who came back after he enjoyed a two respite stay not so long ago!
How better to welcome them than with a party! A singalong was accompanied by glasses of wine, mocktails, and a few gin and tonics.
Carol was ‘chuffed’ and said, “thank you to everyone who turned up.” Everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable time.
A sense of home is important as it can create feelings of comfort, safety, and well-being. It can also help people feel a sense of stability and satisfaction in their lives.
Summer ball
Our residents enjoyed a wonderful evening of music, dancing and delicious refreshments at our Summer Ball. We had so much fun dancing to Bee Chumley Vocalist, then afterwards having a little let up and relax whilst listening to Phil Harris the Piano player in the Lounge. Cocktails and canapes were served. The Mayor and Mayoress of Salisbury joined us to make the evening really special. We raised a whopping £259 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance, to support the Mayor’s chosen charity, with our raffle! Thank you to everyone who brought tickets - it goes to such a great cause!
Making dreams come true
One of the best things about being at Cedars, is getting to know all our wonderful residents and their journeys through life. When our activities team heard the family story of Derek’s daughter being born in his Austin A30 and all their wonderful memories of life in their own, a plan was hatched to bring those memories back to life! Derek’s family were over the moon when we told them we had found some vintage cars, and Derek was overjoyed to see cars that brought back such wonderful memories of being a parent to his children! The A30, and it’s almost identical successor the A35, was dubbed the Steel Teddy Bear thanks to its rounded, cuddly appearance. Many thanks to Ray and Jeremy for bringing their cars along to the Cedars for our residents to enjoy; quite a few popped out and really enjoyed having a good look around. The visit evoked lots of reminiscing.
