Activities at The Cedars Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lorraine Mounter

Activity Coordinator

Hello. My name is Lorraine and I love working with the residents at Cedars.  I started as a carer and then joined the activities team.  I love crafting and so this job is ideal as I can look after the residents, whilst we have fun, laughter and create new things together. I find it very rewarding to see the residents happy, smiling and enjoying their day.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, gardening and crafting.  I also have a horse and I look after my granddaughter.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Cedars Baking Club!

Last week it was national pizza day, so at the Cedars baking club our residents made pizza!

They each chose their own toppings and shared their pizzas with friends for supper that evening.
Everyone had a fantastic time!

Flower Arranging

Spring is nearly here, and we couldn’t be more excited about the brighter days ahead!

Our residents spent an enjoyable afternoon making table decorations. We think they look absolutely fabulous.

Senior Games

Yesterday we had a visit with Hayden from Our Wiltshire Hayden is part of a 12 week programme, Wiltshire Council are running called Senior Games. "Senior Games sessions feature the British Gymnastics Foundation's 'Love to Move' programme, designed by experts to enhance cognitive function. Participants can enjoy music, engage in physical activities, and challenge their minds with brain exercises. These sessions are fun, engaging and aim to help participants 'do more' in their daily lives."This week our residents enjoyed movement, cognitive activities and music.Everyone really enjoyed the experience and we can't wait to take part in many more activities over the coming 12 weeks!

Giant Scrabble!

This week we had a very exciting delivery from the wonderful, Wellow Men’s Shed.

For the past year, they have been making us a custom built Scrabble board!

We are so grateful to each and every one of them, for all the time and effort they have put in to making it for our residents to enjoy for many years to come!

The Wellow Men's Shed is a fantastic social and workshop space for gents across the local area to come together and work on their crafts, hobbies, and DIY projects, among old and new friends.

Christmas at Cedars

At Cedars, we've had a wonderful fun filled Christmas.  Here are our memories of a very special time of the year. We’ve had reindeer visits from N & J Heavy Horses, entertainment with Cosmic Sparkle, a Christmas party at Landford Music Club, Ball games and movement on memory lane with Tom from District Sports and gifts from Father Christmas and his elf.

New Year Car Rally

We were thrilled to be the host of the annual classic car rally.

The group joined us for bacon sandwiches before setting off on their route but not before doing a few laps of the driveway to show our residents their cars.

There was a lot of excitement in the air and the residents were reminiscing some of their past cars.

Jeremy, one of the Test Valley Motor Enthusiasts members sent an email to express his thanks.

"On behalf of TVME but I would like to add my thanks for all the efforts of the team yesterday. I thought everything went really well - apart from the weather over which neither of us have any control – but I still came along with the roof down! There seemed to be some good mixing between residents and the club members, plus a number of residents and families braving the elements and looking around the cars.

The food and drink were excellent and plentiful so please pass on my thanks to the team who were busy making sure there was plenty available."
