Activities at The Cedars Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Angela Cawsey
My name is Angela Cawsey and I am 60 years young. I have lived locally to Cedars since 2011, firstly in Downton and more recently in Alderbury. In the past I have worked with mature people in their homes, and adults with learning difficulties in a number of settings. During lockdown I ran daily zoom sessions for wellbeing, including bingo and quizzes.
I enjoy spending time with people and helping them smile, whether on a one-to-one basis or in groups. When my children were young I volunteered as a helper at Boys Brigade and St John’s Ambulance which was very rewarding.
Other jobs I have enjoyed include, selling computers, an IT and Management Trainer, HR and Business Manager and my personal favourite, being Grandma to 8 grandchildren. I love music, craft, the outdoors and animals.

Life at The Cedars Care Home
Chin-Chin
What better way to spend a chilly Autumnal afternoon than relaxing in the lounge with new friends and a G&T?
Ingrid, Wendy and Jean have become firm friends during their respite stays. They have enjoyed crafting, quizzing, outings, late suppers and a tipple! But most of all the opportunity to spend time with like minded ladies.
Exotic Animal Visit
On Monday we had a visit from ZooLab the residents really enjoyed getting up close to all manner of animals.
Animal assisted therapy is recognised as an occupational therapy within psychology suggesting animals bring people together. It certainly did
Dog Training Talk
A big thank you to Steve from Cainark Dog Training.
Such an interesting and informative talk on Friday. Our residents and local community thoroughly enjoyed the morning and enjoyed the lovely Jax too.
Theatre Trips
At Cedars we love to help make wishes come true especially when it means getting out and about!
When Paul arrived at Cedars, he said he would love to go to the Theatre. He enjoyed drama at school and attended the theatre over the years - his wish was to go and see a few plays.
Ruth was an avid theatre goer and absolutely loved to go, during a residents meeting she said her wish would be to go again.
Terry was shy as a girl. When her mum went to the nuns and talked to them about it, they decided drama was the answer. When she left school she joined a drama club and would go to the Old Vic every Friday, mostly to watch Shakespeare. On the last trip to see ‘Murder in the Dark’, Terri recited her part in Macbeth; she could remember all the words.
Our activities team organised trips to Salisbury Playhouse and so far we have seen ‘Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense’, on Thursday 14th September, and ‘Murder in the Dark’ by Torben Betts on Thursday 5th October.
November’s outing will be to see ‘The Girl on the train’
A very busy week!
Pilates with Donnaamarie Fitness, Film Club with a choice of tipple, Downton Baptist Church visited for a service, a trip out to Landford Singing Group, a trip out to the Garden centre.
Never a dull moment at Cedars!

Pop into Cedars and we'll be happy to help.
Marshall the Working Cocker Spaniel visited us today. He is 10 weeks old and full of energy. Bouncing and bounding around Cedars, and enjoying our scooby snack station, he was an absolute delight!
Spending time with Dogs has many health and emotional benefits. Dog companionship has been known to reduce stress and lower blood pressure. Cuddles with a dog may even improve or prevent depression and anxiety and is known to decrease agitated behaviours in seniors with dementia.
