Activities at Chater Lodge Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant
Activities Coordinator
Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019.
My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents.
I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.
Celebrating life at Chater Lodge Care Home
Wreath making
The residents got creative with a festive Christmas wreath making session.
The talented residents created wonderful wreaths that now adorn the home, making it smell wonderful.
Icon Day
A day celebrating our favourite icons. We had so much fun at the home as staff replaced their uniforms and dressed up as their favourite icons.
Residents recognised a glamorous flapper girl, a peaky blinder, Fred and Wilma Flintstone, Dastardly and Mutley, and Ali G was in the house, not to mention our Regional Director dressed up as Wednesday Adams.
Residents were also honoured to have a visit from the King himself, Elvis Presley. The day was full of fun and laughter.
Furry friends pay a visit
Chater Lodge was full of animal mischief as the resident’s family and friends and the community welcomed Michelle’s petting zoo.
The residents were surprised to see an array of animals such as a chicken, guinea pig, rabbit, cats and dogs and a tortoise riding his skateboard roaming around the lounges. Every resident was filled with smiles and enjoyed cuddles of pure joy.
Letter writing day
The residents at Chater Lodge sent beautiful letters to their loved ones. The letters were sent overseas to friends and family.
We sent correspondence in various ways: email and, of course, written letters.
All the residents that took part were happy to keep in contact and tell them their news. The residents are now happily awaiting their replies.
Out and about
Each week we go out into the community and sample some delicious pastries and scones with jam and clotted cream all washed down with a beverage of our resident’s choice.
Our mini bus trips are an important part of our activities planner, the resident’s get to choose where to go each week.
Ketton Bell Ringers
The residents' family and friends welcomed the Ketton Hand Bell ringers. It was a wonderful morning of entertainment, people clapped their hands and sang along to the wonderful sound. We then listened to Zoe and Paul playing the Melodeons, which they had been playing for years.
A resident's family member said: “The bells have really got me into the Christmas spirit.

Deck the halls with holly!
Staff and residents at Chater Lodge have been decking the halls, getting out the tinsel and unravelling the fairy lights, ready for a whole host of Christmas celebrations.
Residents and staff have been busy creating lots of home-made wreaths. The residents have also been crafting home-made decorations for Christmas tree which they all helped to decorate, the tree is looking truly magnificent covered in beautiful Christmas lights, and homemade decorations.
Vintage singer entertains
We welcomed back one of our resident’s favourite Alan Jackson. Residents, staff and families had a wonderful morning dancing and singing along to the fantastic Alan Jackson vintage singer.
Alan sang songs from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and the resident’s requests.
Putting us through our paces
The residents at Chater Lodge were put through their paces with seated mobility exercises with the lovely Jake.
Residents and staff used resistant bands and balls to exercise, seated exercises are a fantastic way for our residents to keep fit and also improve their body core strength which helps them with their mobility and retain muscle strength.
Abba Tribute
A brilliant afternoon was had at Chater Lodge. Residents, their families and friends enjoyed an afternoon of pure Abba hits and fabulous dancing.
This was made extra special for one of our residents, Sheila, as it was her granddaughter, Melody, who performed. Residents reminisced about classic hits and their favourite songs; they waved pom-poms and glow sticks.
It was a truly special performance enjoyed by all, and we can’t wait for the next one.
Cubs visit
The residents’ families and friends were delighted to welcome the local village cub group and their leaders for a special evening of entertainment. The Cubs performed brilliantly, and it was amazing to see that the age gap didn’t stop the cubs from interacting with the residents.
One resident said ”Brings back memories of myself when I was younger."
An evening of intergenerational fun.
Pumpkin carving coffee morning
We held a special community coffee morning where the resident’s family and friends and the community came together for a creative coffee morning.
Residents and staff had a great time getting messy carving out faces on pumpkins for Halloween.
This was a brilliant group activity that had everyone talking and reminiscing about past Halloweens. Everyone was creative, creating spooky selections of different faces – some scary, smiley and funny ones. They will look beautiful at our Halloween party.
Opera Day
The residents, staff and family at Chater Lodge enjoyed an operatic performance by Gabriella. Her distinctive singing style gave us all goose bumps and even made us cry.
Did you know opera singers are renowned for their powerful voices, able to belt out melodies to such a volume that they fill a whole opera house without a microphone?
Live virtual event - Come sing!
We had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper from Biiah as he led an amazing virtual singing session for our residents to enjoy.
Our residents were able to learn different techniques as they sang the uplifting ‘Que Sera Sera’ by Doris Day and ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice' by The Beach Boys.
There were smiles and laughter all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul. The residents enjoyed ice lollies after all that singing.

National Cowboy Day
Chater Lodge had a Rootin'-Tootin' Wild West Celebration! In recognition of National Cowboy Day!
Our care home was transformed into a rip-roarin' western wonderland—and it was a blast from start to finish!
KJ & The Catt had the crowd dancing in their boots with a toe-tappin' set of country and western favourites. The energy was high, and the dance floor was never empty!
